Initially I was impressed with how the service sounded. I left the search for accommodation in Belgium for 6 of us to them, they made it sound so easy. The reality was quite different. No return calls as promised. Have had to continually chase them without any success. I suspect they have not found accommodation and this has lost me a week during which I could have done it. 2 days after I joined I had a little accident - I called RAC with me within 2 hours - no issues fab service all round. Couple of weeks later I was prompted to apply for free tickets to RHS Tatton in July - and got them! Logged on today to find we have free access to English heritage sites. Finally today bought a new oven and have registered for extened warranty. LOVE IT (read more)

I went to Germany just yesterday. Unfortunately my car was broken down. I called the brake down helpline. In the first moment I was thinking It will cost me a lot (it was free). After my short conversation the service switched to high speed. After 45 minutes the mechanic was checking my car and he said he can not repair the car, he needs to take to the garage. Having been a premier account holder for years, and never particularly used the extra perks, this month I have 2 real complaints. The Airport Lounge A charge for £30 was taken from my account, without authorisation, 5 months after I visited a lounge in Turkey after the staff member there specifically agreeing that my 2 children would not be charged for. To date we have been happy with premier Life, but we now find that Aviva is going to take over the travel insurance from the 1st January 2011.
This has caused a particular problem as we go scuba diving on all our holidays and we now find that we are only covered for 5 days diving and diving with a dive master or instructor on each holiday. As we dive most days the insurance will not now cover the whole holiday. Also scuba diving equipment is no longer insured. All other sports seem to be... (read more)

I have been using Premier Life account with Barclays for 2,5 years. What a great "adventure". At the account opening I was approved for Premier "black card" and was waiting for it to arrive... The card have been "sent" to me countless times or so they say. And after 1,5 months of waiting, calling, enquiring, complaining in writing I finally received it. Such a joke is this premier bank account. I would never ever recomend it to anyone even to my worst enemy . I needed to use the legal advice. Such a joke. Very rude person told me that I have no rights. Good I had in my home insurance included a legal advice so I got a proper help. Second attempt. SOS home assistance. Another big joke. I have a Barclays Premier Life account. The best thing without doubt is the concierge servce which can really get stuff done well. IT's not a call centre but has real experts who get stuff done for you. I have got restaurant recommendations all over the world (I travel a lot) from people who know the places and also used the home experts to get a new bathroom done with good supliers (who did actuallyb turn up on time). Upgraded my Barclays account to Premier life and it has been fantastic. Trust me I am a difficult person to please because my expectations are always high. If you ever have any challenges it is becuase the customer service officer is not on top of the game. Otherwise very good.

I think the Barclays Premier Account is fantastic, good range of benefits, 90 day travel insurance which i use alot as i travel out of the country 10 or so times a year, also lounge access and RAC is good and Ive never had a problem with Online banking or Telephone banking - polite staff. I have to say that Premier Life is a nicely marketed product, but in real day to day use is absolutely rubbish. My problems began from the day one, when I was not able to withdraw any money from my Barclay Premier card, having tried 5 different locations - no result. Customer service kept me on the phone for ages passing from one dept to another and at the end could not identify what was the problem.

Pretty hopeless bunch although telephone banking usually works well.
You get a personal manager but mine was useless - didn't deliver any of the help he promised and they cocked up the account opening and the debit then credit card issue. I got the feeling that his interest was in selling services (on which one imagines he gets commission) not on providing a useful service.

Barclays didn't order a debit card to go with the Premier account so ended up paying for two months of account fees. Why? Oh well I called them up twice and was told it was on its way, until finally I was told that it hadn't even been ordered... but guess what... I have to go into a bank and activate it (get them to send one). Consider other free options, going to try HSBC and will post a review on that too. (read more)

Very happy with this service so far. Excellent relationship manager, easy access to advice from someone not just tied to Barclays / Woolwich's own products, good range of benefits (esp lounge access now travel policies are getting more restrictive), and access to ten's concierge service (which is fantastic). Barclays Premier Life Account - I opened an account with Barclays as a new customer on 23rd June 2008. I was offered a Premier Life Current Account and was offered a range of additional services such as dedicated call centre, Concierge, Airport lounge access, RAC membership and insurance if I agreed to pay a monthly fee. I agreed to this.
