Good Points: Small efficient, friendly excellent location for Newport coast and surounding area, car hire great choice very close to gates how all airports should be but never will. Loved it.
Bad Points: We were concerned our plane may not make it before late evening black out when i understand flights get diverted to LA.
General comments: The ease of flying into here and avoiding LA has played a big part in our decison to return to the area next year - as life is short but sweet we seldom re-visit places. Cannot speak highly enough but don't tell everyone it's just so neat as it is.

I flew out from LAX on the way out, and it is a much nicer airport, despite having a long commute. From LAX the flight wasn't overbooked, and we were upgraded to First. The seat choice was limited on the flight back to Orange County. The Admirals club is nice, but not as nice as the one at LAX. Our bags got lost, and even though American Airlines did all they could to get them through, we didn't get them until 10am the next morning. Heed my warning, and do not use John Wayne. The air-side restaurant at John Wayne Airport , Santa Ana, California (SNA) serves decent meals promptly. Pizza is also available, and there is a McDonald's at each end of the building. TSA seems to adequately staff the checkpoints.
