Bought this VAX VS-193S as just moved in to newly carpeted house and have a cat so needed something with power. What a mistake buying this machine. I bought it in a sale for £49.99 but should have saved my money. The suction is ok on carpets until it gets clogged then you have to take it to bits to clean. The worst bit is the carpet tool. It rotates fine until it touches the carpet then stops completely. Its not clogged or anything but it just wont rotate at all. Totaly useless. Wish i had read the reviews before buying as this seem to be a problem with this machine. Should have bought a dyson.

I've had my VAX VS 193S for 2 years with no maintenance problems at all. I have replaced the filter once. We have a dog and can half fill the container on one session of vacuuming. Also, the Turbo Tool has always worked well for me and is a boon for cleaning the car. However, my wife who has arthritis does find the cleaner heavy and very difficult to manage ie emptying and switching to hose operation. All round though I regard it as having been good value for money.

It is an awkward machine to manoeuvre. Falls over very easily when using the hose. Using the hose is a bit of a palaver too having to detach from one to the other. Very brittle plastic, the back handle broke off then the wheels snapped off. It has definately put me off buying another VAX. (Although the after sales service I received was second to none, my guarantee was up and they still sorted it within the week, free of charge!)

I admit, I was attracted to the sleek design and brilliant color of the VAX VS-193S vacuum cleaner. I paid more than I had intended to spend because I thought it would last many years. By the time I had assembled the vacuum I was beginning to have serious doubts about my choice. I suppose it would be OK if your floors were all carpet, or all hard surface, but if your bedrooms are carpet, and other areas are tile, or if you have any area rugs, then this is not a good choice. You have to constantl ...

I had the bad luck of buying this VAX VS-193S vacuum cleaner around 6 months ago. The same day I bought it the belt snapped because a hair got stuck in the rotating device! I had to buy other 2 belts for £ 10 that were broken within the month. Basically, this vacuum cleaner is meant to be used on a clean floor with no hair on it. It can cope with a slight dust.
The Turbo Tool was the next to go, although apparently perfectly working and clean, it doesn't rotate any longer.
