“Excellence in Service”

★★★★★

written by Samir11 on 02/03/2016

I flew business class on Air Berlin flight #7222 from Stuttgart, Germany to Abu Dhabi, UAE on February 4th. With this being my first time to Fly Air Berlin, I did not know what to expect. I was extremely pleased with the level of service and the friendly and the courtesy of the staff. The on time arrival, the food quality and of course the excellent service made my trip so memorable. I certainly look forward to travel with your airline again in the very near future.

“Terrible customer service”

★☆☆☆☆

written by Lambro226 on 21/10/2015

The Airberlin lost my luggage on flight from Chicago to Berlin. They located it on the same day in Frankfurt, but it took them 5 days to get it to Berlin. I sent them receipts for the clothes I had to purchase to survive the 5 days. One year has passed and they haven't resolved my claim yet and for last 6 months stopped replying to my requests and questions in this regard. The only way to get the refund is to sue them or to inform The European Consumer Commission that they don't comply with the UE laws regarding refunding such claims. In a meantime avoid this airline at all cost. It seems the worse in Europe.

“Great people and flights.”

We flew Air Berlin from JFK to Florence by way of Dusseldorff. The plane was spotless, crew was great and there were 2 meals in flight. There is nothing negative that I can say.....a great and less expensive way to fly.

“I flew Airberlin from ny to berlin and then to Krakow....”

★☆☆☆☆

written by etWooten187 on 20/02/2015

I flew Airberlin from ny to berlin and then to Krakow. from the start the plane from new york was delayed( it was posted sat and flight was sunday). the delay was 1,45hr and the layover time in berlin was 1,35hr. i questioned several members of airberlin what was going to happen in berlin if i don't make it on time. i didnt ger any answers. again in the plane I questioned several flight attendants of how is this going to work.still no answers t\from anyone. but anyways landed in berlin at 0830. on the plane i still got the connecting flight gate for krakow and i was under impression that i would make the connection, got to the gate at 0905 and the plane left. so i had to wait 8,5hrs in berlin. nobody offered or informed me about possible vouchers for hotel stay for that time. so i spent all that time in the airport. staff was very rude. when pasing through security check point, an older man that checked my ticket threw it back at me, wow nice service. so when i get to my final destination in krakow, i find out that my luggage was on the previous flight that i didnt make it. this is simply rediculous. i spend total of 30hrs on this trip. it was my first time flying with airberlin and definately the last.

“Lost luggage, Lost medication, HELP”

written by 0HPberlin on 02/10/2014

How can an airline that flies direct non-stop from Berlin to Chicago lose your luggage? Air Berlin can! On Sept. 30, 2014, Flight 7420 Air Berlin from Berlin to O'hare lost my luggage about 50 additional people did likewise. I need my medication in the luggage URGENTLY.

“Never ever again”

★☆☆☆☆

written by on 07/09/2014

I fly quite a lot and this was my second time on AB after a short flight to Crete in 1997. To make a long story short - the 2 biggest issues were: - The narrow space between the seats, Ryanair has more space! That would be OK on a 2-3 hours flight, but not 12 hours (TXL-AUH-HKT and back). Terrible. I am 1,88m and did not know how to sit. - Customer service: I do not know if the flight attendants earn enough or have zero training because they have no idea about customer service. At the end of the day I do not care - I want the best service for my money and I have to say that I have never - and I have been to almost 80 countries - experienced such unprofessional, often rude stewards. Two examples: I ordered special meals and on 2 of the 4 flights there were problems with it and the AB staff screamed the information about my special meal throughout the cabin. #2: I went to the kitchen for a second beer. The lady gave me a lecture in a very rude undertone that the supplies have to suffice for the return flight from HKT to AUH as well. All this, and more, has never happened to me before. The result for me is: AB and AUH never ever again. AUH is a mess too - everything is totally unorganised and everything works like on a bazaar. I know DXB and DOH as well. DXB and EK are the best and I love to use them.

“Last time ever! ”

written by Kenzie1966 on 30/08/2014

I've been trying countless times calling them and have not received any reponse. Booked a flight 4 months ago only to receive an email saying I now have a 6 hour stop over instead of what I signed up for which was 2 1/2. I've been on hold with Expedia for 3 1/2 hours try to change my flight and move it to another via air Berlin with a stop over of 2 hours like I booked for but they have no been response. I've heard horrible things about airberlin and still took a chance with them. Worst decision of my life. DO NOT FLY WITH AIRBERLIN even if there are no other flints! Worst customer service ever!!!!!!!

“Another lost bag saga”

★☆☆☆☆

written by Krams on 13/08/2014

Truly the worst airline ever. We went from lax-Miami-dusseldorf-Venice. Started on American, which oddly looks so good right now and then transferred to air Berlin. They lost 1 bag, that was tsa approved locked so I don't know if that is factoring into their "losing it". But worse even yet...is absolutely NO response from the airline in 4 days. They push you back to the local airport where I landed and had to report it missing...so this was Venice. What a joke. I call for an update, get a "still tracing bag" message, try to update information and it passes you to an operator, but the system just hangs up on you. I have sent 2 emails to the airline, and submitted 2 forms....no response to any of them. Their customer service is horrible. And since we are heading on a cruise, we had to buy some clothes to get us through a 2 week trip. From reading previous reviews they don't compensate for losing your bag and the added expense associated with their mistakes. Such horrible business practice, I have no idea why American would even consider being a partner with them. No US airlines should partner with them, because our expectations are to be treated fairly and air Berlin is the absolute worst!

“Packed in like sardines”

★☆☆☆☆

written by Urquhartib481 on 23/07/2014

My family and I recently flew to Germany and flew Air Berlin, as we did in 2012, because we always had a good experience with this airline, even when it was LTU. This time something happened, it was as if it was a different airlines, the flight over and back was very uncomfortable and here is why. It looked as if more seats were added and leg room was less, being long legged it is bad enough on an airline as it is, but this was really bad. Not only were people paced in like sardines, the width of the isles were smaller and the attendance had trouble moving the carts up and down the isles. At one point I had my feet stretched out in the isle and before I had a chance to move them in a cart ran over my foot, and got no apology from the attendant . Eleven hours is long enough, to be cramped up like we were for that period of time is made it seem like twenty hours. You would hope the person in front of you wouldn't push their seat back........they did. We flew for many years LTU before it became Air Berlin, and never had a problem like this. In the future we will consider flying Lufthansa when flying to Germany next time.

“Lost bag, then found it, then lost it again!”

★☆☆☆☆

written by Mathew132 on 21/07/2014

This is truly unbelievable. Flying ZRH-TXL-OSL. In OSL we were informed that our bags didn't leave Berlin TXL. They confirmed they had them in Berlin, and that they would delivered on the next flight. When the next flight arrived, I went back to the airport, but my bag wasn't on it, even though it was supposed to be. Now several days later they cannot find my bag at all, my holiday is completely ruined as I am stuck here without any compensation or assistance while I wait for my bag. The airline has provided no help whatsoever! Never fly Air Berlin unless you want to lose your bags!

“Terrible. Customer Svc the WORST ever had contact with”

★☆☆☆☆

written by Maryjane45 on 09/07/2014

Can you give No Stars based on customers Service? Story 1: In 2013, we took a flight from JFK to Barcelona, and had a 5.5 hour layover in Tigel Germany. Unfortunately even after the 5.5 layover, we never received our luggage. Also a downer, several people other than us were in the exact same situation. It took a total of 4 days to receive our luggage in Barcelona. Upon our return to the states, Air Berlin would not provide us with an explanation as to why the airline lost our luggage, even after several emails. We requested they compensate us for time lost and personal items that we were required to purchase in Barcelona. Unfortunately, they claimed no responsibility since we held travel insurance. All we wanted was an explanation! Customer service at Air Berlin is the worst I have ever come in contact with. In calling the customer service line, we were referred to email as the only communication for lost baggage. There was no number for lost luggage. I sent several emails, and it took weeks before I received a non-automated response regarding our luggage. Even after stating all the details, we were not given an explanation. Three weeks after our communication by email and requesting compensation for time lost and personal items spent, Air Berlin offered to get the claim started if we handed over our bank account #. They just lost our luggage. Do they really think I am going to just hand over my bank numbers? They also wanted a letter stating we didn’t have travel insurance. We did have travel insurance, but that does not limit their responsibility or ill-capability in caring for people’s belongings. Story #2 The wife flew Air Berlin for a trip to Poland in 2014. While she did have a tight connection in Germany, upon return, she and the person she traveled with were told their luggage did not make it. She left a message with the phone number on the claim form and received no return call. She called again after several phone calls, and waited on hold for 45 minutes before someone came to the phone. She was then told that she needed to call JFK where she flew out of. She has sent several emails over the last week, and communicated with JFK. Even after communicating with JFK, it has been a full week since her return, and we still do not have her luggage. There has been no communication from Air Berlin on this matter even after several emails. Please do not use this Airline! They are simply TERRIBLE!

“The Taco Bell of Airlines”

★☆☆☆☆

written by on 24/05/2014

I flew Air Berlin business class from Los Angeles to Berlin in May 2014. The first leg of the flight was operated by American Airlines, the international portion by Air Berlin. Now, I'm going to say something about American Airlines (which I consider a crappy airline) that I never thought I would say: walking from American Airlines' business class into Air Berlin's business class was like walking from a five star restaurant into a Taco Bell. The first thing I noticed about Air Berlin's business class: It's cramped. Very cramped. Air Berlin tries to sell the head-high dividers between its business class seats as "even more privacy," "even more isolation," and so on, but in reality these are just flimsy plastic screens that fail to disguise the fact that Air Berlin has taken away about half the width of a "normal" business class seat and inserted another seat, which is recessed, so the other passenger's feet are sticking into your space. They manage to cleverly disguise this in their advertising by depicting only isolated seat units. One of the main things one pays for in business class is physical distance from other passengers. In Lufthansa's or American Airlines' business class, for example, the passengers in front and behind you are at least a couple of yards away and separated from you by a hard plastic divider. The person next to you is at a comfortable distance behind generous armrests and armrest dividers. No one can breathe in your face, no one can kick your seat, and you have plenty of space. In Air Berlin's business class, the feet of the person in the recessed seat next to you are a few inches away, separated by a flimsy, shaky plastic screen, cutting into your space. The person in front of you is also recessed, with their head sticking into your space. Air Berlin's plastic seat divider is - inexplicably - cut low in the back, with the effect of exposing the top of your head if lower your back rest. If you recline and the person "behind you" (remember, they're only half-way recessed) doesn't, they're breathing on your scalp. If the person behind you coughs a lot - as happened to me - you're either coughed on the head a lot or you simply can't recline. This is exactly the kind of annoyance one pays to avoid in business class. In addition to significantly reduced width, the business class seats are very short. I'm 185cms (6'1"), and I could only "lie down" with my knees pulled up toward my chest. In comparison, in Lufthansa's or American Airlines' business class, I can stretch out fully. Air Berlin's armrests are a joke. On my right, the armrest was about four inches thick. On my left, it was exactly the width of my index finger (not an exaggeration) and it was squeaky and wobbly (hard to believe but true). The in-flight entertainment is good, with a solid noise-cancelling headset provided by the airline. The 15" screen is decent, and operated via a remote with a mouse-like controller that works reasonably well, but which your mother will not learn to use in a 100 years. The screen has nothing on, for example, AA's giant HD touch screen. The live map is nice, and I found it better than Lufthansa's live map, and worse than AA's interactive 3D live map. The entertainment selection is limited. There were a few new movies, but most of the selection was old stuff. For example, at the time I flew Game of Thrones was in its fourth season, and Air Berlin had Season 1. As a plus, there is a power outlet, a USB outlet (something I haven't seen on other airlines) and a three pronged headset connector (which will power the headset's noise canceling features, but won't allow you to use your own headset). Storage is a problem. There is a compartment with cheap carpeting under the ottoman, a pouch for magazines, and rather small overhead compartments. Except for the medium-sized table, there are no surfaces. If you compare this to Lufthansa's spacious side compartments, in-front storage and generous surface space, it's laughable. Every business class passenger has - a few inches from their face - a strange, UFO-looking contraption that turns out to be a combination of reading light and "night light." One can't help thinking this must be a case of designers gone insane. These units are a) unnecessary because there already is a reading light in the ceiling, b) ugly and cheap-looking and c) produce the most horrible, palest "night light" you could imagine - it's worse than having a dentist shine that big white lamp in your face. The food is pretty bad. I got shrimp and salad as an appetizer. The shrimp were okay, but topped with unidentifiable dark brown paste straight from a squirt tube. The bed of crispy noodles was soggy, as if the meal had been standing for a long time. The salad was truly crappy - old, dry, and topped with two giant slices of dry, colorless tomato. The main course - chicken - was good. The desert was simply fresh fruit. Decent alcoholic beverages and snacks are available at any time. The flight attendants try pretty hard, but they can't make up for the overall failings and the general cheapness of the cabin design. They're nice, but they'll throw you out of the kitchen immediately if you try to get up and stretch your legs a little. I don't know how this compares to other carriers, since other carriers' business class seats have always been spacious enough to not give me a desire to get up and stretch my legs. Bottom line: Air Berlin's "business class" shouldn't even be called "business class." It's more of a glorified economy class plus. Don't be fooled by advertising, as I was. Don't pay for this, it's not worth it. I felt cheated so much I took the time to write this review.

“Quality check IGNORE us!”

★☆☆☆☆

written by on 23/02/2014

We are trying to contact Air Berlin customer services to claima 120€ voucher offered to us last JULY 2013! They promised to contact us with an unsolicited mail when there was a solution. This NEVER happened! We have written more than a dozen emails...phoned customer services...contacted them through the social media. These just ask us to write another mail, this time @facebook. We received a standard email template in Feb 2014 thanking us for writing! NO ONE ANSWERS OUR QUESTIONS. Air Berlin just want us to give up and go away. Do their executives know how they ignore passengers? Air Berlin should remember that without passengers there would be no airline!

“Worst Airline Ever”

★☆☆☆☆

written by on 08/01/2014

Air Berlin has to be the worst airline I've ever flown on and I've traveled all over the world. They lost our bags for 6 days and they were completely non-responsive. They don't have any way to contact them outside their website and even that is poor. Their service at the gate and during the flight was horrible. They were rude to the point of being abusive. The food was terrible, worse than most domestic flights. There was no customer service numbers that work when you call. They put you in a phone loop and then hang up on you. Never fly Air Berlin!!!!

“Customer Service is Abysmal! ”

★☆☆☆☆

written by on 27/11/2013

I lodged a complaint with AB via their web-site approximately two months ago in regard to compensation for a three (3) day delay to our baggage on a flight from Krakow via Berlin to Oslo. The only acknowledgement I have received to-date is a e-mail generated complaint reference. As a result of the delay, I more recently made a call to AB (from Australia) and was informed that my complaint should be re-directed to Baggage Express. The response I received was from a Call Centre operator who told me that their service was not directly connected to either Customer Service or Baggage Express, in fact the former was only contactable by email only. I made a couple of attempts to contact Baggage Express by international call. On one ocassion I was disconnected and on the other I gave up waiting after 10 minutes without a response. When I finally did get through to someone they suggested that my initial lodgement of the complaint with supporting documentation was the correct procedure and that I should continue to wait for AB to get back to me "as soon as possible". I will endeavour to be as resonable under the circumstances for AB to provide a response but will keep my options open to pursue recovery of compensation through the European Union Inter Country Small Claims Tribunal.

Did you ever get reimbursed (or file a claim)? I am dealing with a similar issue with airberlin now. It has been well over a month since I first submitted my receipts. They are the worst!!!

“AB is acting like a small business in a Turkish Bazar”

★☆☆☆☆

written by on 26/11/2013

Due to overbooking, I gave up my seat on AB flight for a promise to get 400 Euros and next available flight. Afterwards, they started to negotiate with me over the e-mail on a lower compensation and when I refused to their offer, they came back with an improved one which of course was lower from the 400 Euros that were promised at the gate when they needed my seat. They are acting like a small business in a Turkish Bazar. it looks like I will have to take them to court to get my money.

“AirBelrin cheats, rude service”

★☆☆☆☆

written by on 19/10/2013

I tried to reschedule my booking. But to my surprise the price shown was higher than if I did a new booking (i'm not considering 60Euro rebooking fee which I understand). They cheat - when I rebook they show a higher price. lyiers... I tried to call them but they disconnected twice after a while when I asked them politely: "why ?". Poor English, I had problems with understanding them, they simply disconnected after a while. Seems that Hitler is alive there !
