I was travelling with my baby from LAX to Germany and then Spain. The whole trip was, unfortunately, with Air Berlin. I called three times before I bought the ticket to make sure they would return the stroller to me at the gate, since I was travelling by myself and I was carrying the Maxi-Cosi. They assured me they always do, but they were lying to make a sale. I had to get the stroller at baggage claim and cruise airports with the maxi cosi, my baby, a huge diaper bag, and jackets on my... April 2012 we traveled from Faro, Portugal via Palma de Mallorca to Copenhagen after 3 months stay in the Algarve. We brought our dog, a 4-year-old Golden retriever and 3 suitcases. We arrived in Copenhagen at 5 p.m and got a big shock, our dog was not with the plane. Novia, Air Berlin's handling partner investigated the case and found out that she was forgotten in Mallorca. After a period of anvioux waiting we were told that she would be send via Berlin and arrive in Copenhagen at 11 p.m. ... (read more)

Do not travel Air Berlin. I made a booking for my niece with my miles with American Airlines. The trip consisted American, Ethihad, and, unfortunately, air Berlin. American accepted the bags according to the policy. When the passenger got to JFK, the Air berlin folks changed the rule midway! They said Air Berlin has different rules. To make their fake case valid they connected Ethihad with this, which by the way a wonderful airliner. When a booking is made through an airline, as long as the... (read more)

Germany’s second largest airline after Lufthansa, has much improved since last year; particularly in C class, with a brand new cabin on-board their recently purchased A330-200s. It has a couple of hubs in Germany: Düsseldorf (DUS), and Berlin-Tegel (TXL). Flights to New-York JFK operate daily from both hubs, which we found quite practical. From what we experienced in C class, Airberlin is not a "low cost" anymore; though rates remain much cheaper compared with Luthansa, Air France or... (read more)

It is a very bad sign when "customer care" cares less than the people managing the flight itself. Following a disastrous trip with Air Berlin, I have spent over a month trying to get a response from Air Berlin's so-called "customer care" department with respect to a claim for delays and lost luggage. They have ignored e-mails for over 4 weeks, not even showing the decency to acknowledge receipt of my e-mails. Beware of these inconsiderate and careless Germans. (read more)

I am now experiencing the exact same treatment. I was today told that there was no one to speak with and that all communications had to be by email and/or mail. This was after I filed all required reports and a preliminary claim and sent emails and letters to Air Berlin, which told me tafter a month that my situation had been turned over to its Customer Service. The woman on the other end of the line told me bluntly that she would not speak to me further about the matter, and actually said that I would have to wait for Cusotmer Service to respond to my earlier emails because they had so many lost bags to deal with !. Fortunately, I have a law degree and plan suof filing suit in the US over this matter unless it is quickly resolved.

The worst experience I ever had other then Delta. The flight was delayed twice, they rescheduled to the most inconvenient flight, without asking me what I really want or would we be on time. The food was disgusting, they did not let extra 2 kg in overage and I had to pay like 120$ extra which negated any savings of what I was bringing, After I filed a claim with insurance company they were reluctant to give their number to me or any other information .. totally waste of time and money. I would suggest you buy more expensive airline tickets instead of dealing with air Berlin.

Delays happen, luggage gets lost, but so long as an airline tries to make ammends, people move on and forget about it. Not so with Air Berlin whose "customer care" division seem to be a bunch of cowardly, lying, evasive and incompetent people. If you are tall or have long legs, avoid Air Berlin, especially on their long distance flights. The distance from one seat to the one in front of you is miniscule. it is very short front to back. If the person sitting in front of you moves his seat backwards, you will have very little room for your legs. if there is someone sitting next to you, you will have absolutely no room to move your legs at all. Airberlin is a German airline. Pricely it's located in the middle between airlines like Germanwings (cheap) and Lufthansa (expensive). Prices are alright (from 39€ I believe) and you even get a free drink and snacks on a short flight and 20kg luggage is within the price. The best way to judge a service or product provider is the way the handle things when they go wrong. And of course in the airline business a lot of thing can go wrong. Unfortunately AirBerlin does not follow these regulations. I have described what happened to us on a web site that I have created - www.avoidairberlin.n.nu - as it would be... (read more)
