Call quality has become so poor that nearly all calls have to be ended prematurely. There are considerable connection delays, then further delays during speech and very muffled, at times inaudible. Any sort of customer service is practically non-existent and to every email I send asking for help, they repeat the same mantra about doing 'test calls' and getting a ;'technical team' to look at it. Do not use 18185 if you want to save money. They take the money twice and refuse to refund it. First of all they sent an email saying the bank wouldn't pay the direct debit (possibly due to me not using 18185 for a long time), it was still set up on my bank account. I was made to pay by card and told to set up the direct debit again. Be warned, if you have them send you an email stating that you must pay them then expect to have them again take money from you: You end up paying twice. You cannot get through to them for love nor money. (read more)

I've been with 1899, 18185 and 18866 (yes, I have accounts with all 3 and use the one that's cheapest for the particular destination I'm calling) for 6½ years and can count on the fingers of one hand the number of times a call has failed or the connection has been so poor that I had to disconnect and re-dial. The savngs I've made (the GL makes 40+ minute calls to her sister in Spain each week and, at 4p connection + 1p/minute, there's no need to worry about her racking up a big bill). (read more)

We have been using 18185 for the past three years to call Thailand Europe and Australia, we were delighted with the possibility of making cheap calls for family and business purposes; the bill at the end of the month was always surprisingly low; an unusual occurrence. I've just discovered that BT can override their interface and I'm paying twice for the calls! 18185 just shrug it off! DONT USE THEM unless you are sure that your provider cant override the 18185 service.(SERVICE?what service?) (read more)

Been with them for years, gets worse year after year. Terrible connection (almost always does not connect). The other side does not hear any ringtone (on most occasions I had to text them or ring them to pick up the phone which beats the whole purpose of trying to get a cheap call!). Keeps ended up into a voicemail (kept getting charged each time). Drops frequently when connected, poor reception.

My daughter lives in Jersey, Channel Islands. We were both spending a fortune on calls - me with BT and her Jersey Telecom.
I signed up with 18185 and all my calls now cost only 5p with zero p. per minute. As my daughter is not with BT her calls are internation so I always do the calling.
I have had no problems to date and have saved lots of p. The inability to locate or call a customer service does worry me somewhat as does the visibility of my bank account details when I log in.

I work in a school and signed up for 18185 after my brother highly recommended the service. It was excellent until recently when they stopped the texting service. What are we supposed to do now? Everything was working so well but now I have major problems because I have to use my own phone to send text messages and its costing me money. (read more)

The system works reasonably well, all apid via direct debit monthly and only occasionally does it suffer poor connections but as I had forgotten to print off 2010 invoices I needed to contact them -that's when I realised it was impossible to query anything as their link to "customer services" email went via the FAQs which merely looped back to the start so I could never get an email address for customer services or any tel no- they are uncontactable which worries me if there is a money issue... I have been with them for many many years and the system was excellent - the basic function still works well, but now they are slipping - they put the connect price up with out informing you by email, and now they have removed the text service without notice finally and they is no way of contacting them - that is disgraceful!! such a pity that a good product that works well dont have a long term commitment to get bettter and better - they are just stale now! and on the way down. 18185 have blocked my phone since last Friday as they said I owe money. My account is fully up to date though I did owe a bill for just 47p to 18866 which they did not collect as my card had been renewed and they must have had the wrong expiry date or last three digits. The card was updated and bill paid & I can use 18866 with no problem yet 18185 still have my account blocked. Used for about 6 years. Faultless. Don't think I've ever failed to get through to a number. Use it 4 to 5 times every day. Use to other countries weekly without problems at unbelievably low prices. Quality is as normal as you would get with an ordinary BT line. (I suspect that most of these cheap companies rent the spare lines off BT anyway.) Billing has never been a problem but then again I've never tried to change accounts or numbers with them.

Be careful if you move house. I have and was allocated a new landline number. When I tried to register the new number on my existing a/c with 18185, I was prevented as the previous person who had the number held a 18185 a/c but hadn't bothered to notify them. I gave them a week's notice to try and confirm with the previous person that it wasn't now their number. A month on I'm waiting to hear how they propose I reimburse that person as I need a service like this as I don't have inclusive day... (read more)

I have used call 18185 and call 18866 since 2004 and I was really happy. My trouble with 18185 started on 27th July 2010 when 5 x invoices were sent to me varying from £36 to £73. The total invoices amounts to approx £300.00. I feared the worst and thought my account have been hacked and tried to log into my account but could not access it either therefore I reported it to my local Police. Used to be an excellent service, but has gone massively downhill in the past few months. I use them to call abroad from my mobile, so have to dial a London number to get through first. In recent months the number is frequently engaged, or answers and gives me a silent line. Their customer service insist it must be down to my mobile provider, but it's not because I have the same problems from two networks and never have a problem calling anyone else - they clearly just don't have capacity... I have used the service for several years without any problems. However when my credit card was renewed I tried to log in to provide the new information but was unable to. Overall Call18185 just works in the background, you don't get spam and their itemised billing is good. I've been with Call18185 for a while now and have found them as reliable as using my line provider. Their online account works well and makes it easy to track call prices soon after making them. Very low rates for Canada and Italy that I use a lot.Advertises 4p per min for Ecuador for months on end on rates list on website but this service has never been available, one is referred to another number which charges 8p a minute.
IMPOSSIBLE to contact customer services, "webpage unavailable" or endless loop to back where one started.
Reliable invoices I appreciate that a no frills service attempts to cut "Service" costs but I would like to make a serious complaint about advertised rates... (read more)

My phone service was suspended this week, allegedly due to a 'failed payment'. My card company confirms they paid the invoice on the day 'demanded' and my cc statement also shows the bill as paid.. Have sent 2 emails to 18185, to 2 different on-website addresses...no reply.
Also, in the past, several times a connection fee has been charged when connection has failed. Also, calls are sometimes cut off after 1 hr (on chargeable calls) so that the number has to be redialled , with a new... (read more)

Call 18185 UK. Cheap phone service, Customer service shocking, sent me an email saying couldn't take payment from my credit card account, told to set up new one. DID. Two days later another email still couldn't take payment. Sent payment through direct transfer from bank. I emailed them asking that they confirmed receipt of payment. Not a dicky bird!!! Register your BT (and some others) landline with Call 18185.co.uk and anytime you want to make a call dial 18185 then the no. you want and it is so much cheaper ie uk calls are FREE, UK mobiles are 6ppm and calls to Aus are 1ppm..I use it all the time and don't know what that person complaining about insufficent funds is talking about about (prob a pre pay mobile customer who's a bit confused) you dial the no and you make the call..there are no charges other than the calls you make and if... I lodged a complaint about the 'insufficient funds' issue and Call 18185 UK responded promptly with 'my account is in good standing' and the issue is resolved. I haven't successfully made any calls since then to any mobiles, problem still exists. Must be a more reliable service somewhere, unless 18185 can explain I may just use another carrier! (read more)

I've been using 18185 for years and it's been great , "free" (there is a connection fee) calls to UK landlines 0.5p to USA etc. However lately it's started to let me down and I may see if there is another company with the same rates. (read more)

All. I have had no problems at all. Why didn't I find them before. They've saved me a small fortune. I love the 1p sms text function as well. None, they even accept my American express cash back card so it works out cheaper again. Brilliant, cheapest service going, cannot equal it. I phone a South Africa mobile for 8p per min compared with BT at 73p per min - go figure !! Occasionally it gets congested in the evening which can be infuriating but the savings make up for it. How do other operators servive ? (read more)

Call 18185 UK is the best phone service I can find. I used to use Call 18866, but then I found this service, and it is even cheaper than Call 18866 is. I was amazed! The service is great, and the value for money is excellent! (read more)
