Good Points: Excellent reliability, smooth ride, very good handling and high speed stability. Comfortable interior, very nice leather seats.

Bad Points: Wish it had a 5 speed automatic, would make steptronic transmission more fun and get better mpg on highway. Also, wish it had mp3 player.

General comments: Just recently bought the 2006 Mitsubishi Outlander GLS with leather and double sunroof after comparing to Rav4, CR-V and Nissan Xtrail. Overall I liked the styling of the Oulander more then the others, the CR-V and Xtrail in particular have a very generic look to them while the Outlanders styling is definetly more unique and aggressive.
Comparing the ride, the Outlander is shorter (which is good) compared to the rest and has a lower center of gravity, this is especially noticable at higher speeds (above 100km/h). The Outlander feels a lot more stable and safe and car like in it's high speed handling and performance. While the others may be a little quicker, they definitely still have an unsafe, tippy feeling while cornering and lane changing at high speeds.
This crossover has a silky smooth feel on the road and definitely feels like it should be sold for more then I paid, fit and finish are very high. It sucks up imperfections in the road easily leaving you with a smooth, seamless ride. Comparing to the CR-V in particular, the Honda seems to echo small imperfections both in the suspension and cabin which makes for uncomfortable city commuting. The Outlanders designers paid attention to putting asphalt and other insulation in the floorplan to prevent this. The sound deadening sure shows in the daily driving of this vehicle, very quiet, very comfortable and enjoyable. I would highly recommend this to anyone shopping in this segment. Test all the rest before then drive this last. The performance, styling, comfort and value this car delivers is 1st in class, no question. I am very happy with my purchase.

In general the Mitsubishi Outlander SUV was nice to drive on a 1800 mile break in trip. We had 2 adults and 2 children in the Outlander with the cargo area full of gear for a week trip.
The Outlander averaged 24 miles per gallon.
This was city and highway (some hills were in that average). I got as high as 27 mpg and as low as 19 mpg. Overall I would rate the car a 9 out of 10. Now have 2100 miles and all is well.
