Brilliant restaurant one of my favourite indian ones in the whole of leicester. Lovely customer service due to exceptionally friendly staff. Lovely food with a wide range of spice levels to suit everyone in the family. Recently had my birthday meal there and the evening went without a hitch. Little dark maybe but a relaxing atmosphere overall.

Service was terrible, didnt recieve food even after an hour had passed. was told to leave by waiters due to upset in the lateness of food, do not reccommend anybody to go there! absolute terrible. Waiters have no "audacity" to respect customers

Booked a table and went there tonight for a birthday party.
Pathetic service, pathetic waiters, who are rude and foul-mouthed, that in their own words "don't take s*** off anyone"
Can't rate the food because after an hour and a half we still hadn't received it.
Ended up leaving and going elsewhere!
Never to recommend, never to visit again!

A horrendous establishment. Appaling customer service, we even got a waiter called khalid that said he was not willing to take this'sh**t'' anymore. No joking it was serious. We waited 55 minutes for our food because a waiter had forgotten to process it, and when we called the manager he was rude and adamant that we were incorrect about our waiting time for the food. My friends birthday was ruined by this night. The only higlight was that we leaved after eating free poppadoms and drinks.
From my personal experience i would not go to eat here again! period.

the service at this comfortable restaraunt is outstanding. the staff are efficient and very accommadating. the food is obviously fresh including the accompliments and sauces.
the menu comprises of traditional and some interesting chefs signature dishes that I would recommend trying.

Ignore the last review!
The Grand Durbar is the best indian by far in Leicester. The food is great and the service is warm and friendly.
I especially like how it is female friendly.
Overall - Fantastic!!!

Having heard one or two good things about this curry house five of us dined there on a busy Friday night. The staff were courteous and the place looked clean and nicely decorated, I settled down with a nice pint of Kingfisher in eager anticipation of a great meal.
Sadly the Grand Durbar failed to deliver on every aspect of the food. The poppadoms were a little soft which we let pass but should have taken as a warning sign! Starting with my own meal, I ordered the swordfish masala, it took a dissapointing 45 minutes to arrive and was completely overcooked and chewy, and bland also. My companions ordered, in turn, a lamb dish that looked and tasted like a mild curry pot noodle, a paneer dish that appeared to be made with tomato ketchup, and a chicken dansak that arrived at the table as a chicken bunha, and when sent back made a re-appearance 1 minute later with a different garnish!
All dishes were extremely bland and may have been pre frozen and microwaved? the only vaguely tasty dish on the table was the vegetable pilau rice, but this cannot justify the £90 bill for five of us. (to be fair this did include about 8 beers.)
Overall, the front of house were polite and apologetic but the kitchen lets the place down badly.

The only buffet service I can think of near this restaurant is The Feast of India which I found to be no where near as good as the Grand Durbar

As part of a curry club of around 12 members I have eaten at many indian restaurants throughout Leicestershire, Lincolnshire, Cambridgeshire and Rutland and The Grand Durbar has consistently been best. Our members awarded it the best curry house of 2009. The level of service and the knowledge of the staff is second to none, and the food is prepared in a correct and traditional manner unlike other indian restaurants. Ignore any bad reviews anywhere for this restaurant- i have just read a negative one about a buffet at the grand durbar, I have never heard of the grand durbar offering a buffet service as this would lower the standard of what they are trying to achieve-not sure where this person was eating but it wasnt the grand durbar!

I always like going to the Grand Durbar - the food is delicious and the staff are courteous and friendly. You can have dishes especially created for you.
In my opinion, this is some of the best Indian food in Leicester.

Grabd Durbar is the curry house on Melton Road, Leicester
Service was terrible, the waiter could not understand a simple order of 1 pint of diet coke! Buffet was cold and without any taste or spice. Worst buffet experience ever. There are much better alternatives offering better value for money and food quality.

Definately the best Indian meal I have ever enjoyed!!! The staff were fantastic, attentative without being annoying, the atmosphere was perfrct and food excellent. Far too much for us to eat, and it was no problem to package it up to take away. When the bill arrived it was really good value for money. A really good evening.

Disappointing to the limit ! I had had a good experience at Grand Durbar, Leicester last Christmas when we dined at this restaurant in a group of 5 friends. Based on this experience, I ordered take-away on 1st of July 09 for some very dear relations on visit from India. This time however, the food - I had ordered King Prawns in curry and Butter Chicken - was dispicable to put it very mildly. The prawns were stale and not fresh. Even with frozen prawns, there is a technique to completely thaw them out and then cook. The cook had just put the frozen prawns into the curry directly .. It was horrible !

The Grand Durbar, Leicester, has without a doubt the best Chicken Tikka Masala in the world. Don't choose anything else.

Always welcoming. I don't know how many other restaurants there are in Leicester that can boast 20 years under the same management. Excellent food and service, what more can you ask for.

I guess you get what you pay for, I have never had a problems with the food from the Grand Durbar up until recently. I ordered the Chicken tikka masala which is probably the best in Leicester in terms of sauce and taste (no sign of any oil) but it's the chicken pieces used on this occasion. When cutting into the pieces they looked as though they were part of another previous dish??
The tikka masala sauce is usually very red (almost lethal if you get it on your clothes) but when you cut the chicken pieces it looked a little orangey/brown in the middle and a slight aftertaste that was different to the tikka sauce.
I am hoping this was just a one off and would like to think they have not slipped in terms of standards.
The only other point is the fact that the prices seem to be quite high compared to other quality restaurants.
