“Had I known of the lock design fault on the Citroen...”

★★★★☆

written by Smudge. on 27/02/2003

Had I known of the lock design fault on the Citroen C3, I would NOT have purchased one. There is a means of physically locking doors should there be a fault on key. It involves entering the door with key through small hole, this then locks door for security. BUT HOW THEN does one gain access to put passengers in rear, or let them out? ONLY by going to a dealer for repairs - costly if no guarantee.
Car has been back twice to dealer for very minor faults. Both times I have had to tell them how to cure it. Are Citroen dealers trained in anything other than selling?

I didn't know the lock thing but just tried it on my C3. I left it like this once in central london and didn't check the other doors as I assume theyd lock. I have had my car back for 4 recalls and its broken down four times ....not impressive. I am currently looking to replace it as the steerings on its way out. My C3 is 9 months old!!!

Believe me there are hundreds of customers facing problems, The C3 has recently been on Brassed of about Britian, Watchdog and came bottom in all surveys carried out by top gear. I agree that you should only buy this car for you worst enemy! I'd love to help you sort out your problems, I have a long list of customers information and problems and have been working for months to put a big case together and launch a massive campaign! I'd love to hear from you and will do all I can to help. Please email me at [email protected]

hi gang .if you look on the side of your front driver and passenger side you will see a plastic button insert your key and it will lock the door ..make sure you pull the handle out and hold while you do it ....re the back doors activate the back by peeling back the black strip and do the same as front .hope this helps

Update: I've bought a second hand car (a proper car with a proper engine) and just left my C3 in the car park. It is a constant reminder every day when I walk past the ghastly, unreliable little tin what a mistake it was to buy a Citroen. Never, ever again. I'm sorry, if you are the kind of person who is happy with one of these cars then you are very small minded and very easy to impress and know nothing about motor cars at all.

C3 locking: If you want to lock all doors without the alarm being armed, lock with the remote control on the key and then unlock with the remote control button and wait 30 seconds and the car locks automatically without the alarm being armed.
I bought a C3 in Dec 03 and but for a fuel gauge re-set it has been very reliable car and I am delighted with all its features.

Leaky Citroen.

Having purchased a C3 for my wife towards the end of last year, we bought a standard model... to my surprise it came with a swimming pool in the rear... well everytime it rains it does. I would like to thank Citroen for this uncharged added extra and although I have now been back 3 time to ask them to remove it, they insist in letting me have it back.

This is very nice of them, do they have an mouldy smell remover going for free??

I have a 1 year Citroen C3, and after 2 months my steering black box was broken in a way that the guys from service after 1 month of my complains to them replaced it. After 4 months i start to hear the same noise from the steering black box, but the guys from the service(Romania) don't hear nothing. They told me that I have hallucinations. From my experience with Citroen C3 and from the comments posted by other C3 drivers from internet, my conclusion is: DON'T BUY CITROEN!!! ONLY IF YOU LIKE NIGHTMARES!!! The service is the worst I saw in my life and the cars are simple objects, not for transportation of the people from point A to point B.

Exploded gear box. Faulty speakers (3 sets of replacements). 1 CD player replaced (took 5 months to do). Plastic sills falling off. Central locking fails. Power steering fails. Engine light comes on and I lose all power. Battery light always coming on. Seatbelt had to be replaced. Door hinge came lose. Two bonnet arms replaced. Fuses are always blowing. THIS CAR IS A JOKE. Citroen dealerships are a joke. Citroen UK is a joke.

Whilst I like the C3, I have had numerous problems with mine, including dodgy fuel guage, dodgy trip computer and dodgy brakes, all of these are known faults with Citroen, yet I bet they haven't done any recalls?
If the car had been faultless then I would recommend them to anyone, as it is, I shan't be buying Citroen again and have advised a few friends not to bother as well.
All thes faults took ages to sort out and the compensation package they offered me for having my car off the road for nearly a month wasn't worth the paper it was written on.
