“Hi Guys”

Written on: 09/10/2012

I own one too...2004 1.3 etc etc....it's a spectacular car...at the price you can buy it it's relly the most cheapest sports car in the europe.it has quite some power..in consumes as well...but for a rotary engine that is unique it's adorable.I have a saying : "if you can buy it, afford it won't be any problem" :) The bad thing is that the cooling sistem inside as by stock car is a failure because the air doesn't arrive where it should be because all that capsulation, and so as I as many did... “Surprisingly Good in R3 trim”

Written on: 07/05/2012 by rayhart1

I have a family car and a fun car. The RX-8 R3 is my current fun car, but my children love it so much that it spends more time on the road than I planned for! Bad points - fuel consumption is an issue, but consider the low second hand purchase price and no need for cambelt changes. Road tax is the highest and insurance needs shopping around for. Low torque at low revs means that it is no dragster, although she don't half go when you use the 4,000 to 9,000 RPM band. Good points -... (read more)

Had my much loved RX8 for 4 years. Ran ok for the first year but started to have problems starting the engine after stopping. Mazda recalled all RX8's to change the program on fuel intake. This seemed to make the problem worse and now if we pop into THE Asda, You have to wait for approx one hour before it will restart. I have a few rust marks on the boot lid and inside the door frame. This car has all extras and will be going on sale soon for a mere £3000 Please let me know if you want it.... (read more)

Written on: 07/06/2008 by marcos (3 reviews written)

I owned a Skoda Octavia VRS for 6 years and 95,000 miles and loved every moment of it. Before that I had a Ford Puma, which I thought was the perfectly handling FWD sports coupe.
When the time came to bid farewell to the Skoda I wanted something faster, stylish but still fairly practical (I have a 15 year old daughter and 11 year old son).
I toyed with the idea of a BMW M3 (the later 6 cylinder model), but was put off by high insurance and servicing costs. The only other cars that had taken... (read more)

Marcos's Response to marcos's Review

Written on: 07/04/2009

I've now had the car 9 months and add 13,000 miles.

I still don't like the Sat Nav with it's useless postcode input (ignores all but the first 5 characters) and clunky and slow navigation, but the handling never ceases to leave a smile on the face and I've grown acustomed to the high revving nature of the engine and enjoy working the box to get the most out of the car.

Practicality still rates very highly, with it easily accomodating 4 adults and it attracts complimentary remarks from all sorts of people (my kid's friends all seem to love it, but I've had retired men comment it's the sportscar they'd like to own).

Fuel consumption seems to be around 23MPG, which is frankly awful, but I knew it would be - I have seen 300 miles from a filled (55 litre) tank once or twice on long motorway runs. Oil consumption's not that bad, usually taking a little every other week (I have a Saturday morning ritual of checking the oil now) and it doesn't need exotic oil (or high octane fuel), so the costs aren't worrying.

The car is comfortable to drive long distances. The seats are supportive, suspension supple for a sporty car and wind noise is generally low - Tyre roar is a little intrusive with the mixture of quite cheap tyres the car currently has. I found the heated seats very good on cold winter days, warming my back as well as my bum very quickly.

Problems? Well, one very snowy morning I couldn't get the car off the drive and when I came to start it two days later, it was flooded, resulting in a call to the RAC - A not uncommon problem even covered in the handbook, but the last owner hardly used the car and the original battery lacked the oomph to spin it enough to get it going (actually the RAC man flattened his battery doing it too, so it was probably beyond realism to expect the standard battery to cope).

Other than that, nothing car related, although I've had two punctures which the stupid sealant can wouldn't fix - I bought a spacesaver spare off of eBay after the second... and managed to scrape the passenger door down a pillar in a car park, visibility isn't great.

Overall, though, I get a real pleasure from jumping in the RX8 every morning and I'm still polishing it now and then (the black paintwork still looks deep and rich), a true test of my enthusiasm!

Where to begin folks...
I have several cars and bikes in my collection and i'll list them all for you here as it is all relevant. I currently own a mark 1 Golf GTi, a BMW E30 320i, Mazda RX8 (of course), Ferrari 355 Spider, Maserati 4200 which I keep in Spain, Honda CBR 600 Fi, Honda Goldwing and I've just purchased a Rolls Royce Drophead Coupe. Which one do I use on a daily basis because of its practicallity and excellent build quality, fantastic stereo system from BOSE, satnav, climate... (read more)

Written on: 18/08/2006 by John Thompson (37 reviews written)

RX owners all moan about fuel consumption, and rightly so, BUT there is a flip side to the overall ownership costs before you get too worried!

Firstly, look at the initial purchase price. When you consider the RX has exclusive looks (Unlike say, a BMW 3 series, which is a fine fine car, but a bit ubiquitous) awesome on road ability combined with turbine like smoothness and everyday practicality, it's downright cheap and you would have to spend over £30-35K to find any serious... Written on: 14/07/2006 by yinmorrison (1 review written)

I still have a BMW 323 and it was snappy but the Mazda RX8 is extremely fast especially from about 60 on up although I was a bit surprised when an S2000 went past me on the A1m whilst we were both accelerating. The sound system is excellent and I have not used too much oil yet however I tend to use the oil gauge as a check which may or may not be the best way. (read more)

Daverob0's Response to yinmorrison's Review

Written on: 13/04/2007

yinmorrison - a word of advice! I have had a Mazda RX-8for nearly 3 years, and if you rely on the 'oil gauge' to indicate when to add oil, you will BLOW IT UP!!! It is NOT a real gauge. I have forgotten to check my oil in the past, and on doing so, I found the oil below the lowest mark on the dip stick. The 'Gauge' however, hadn't moved once, and hasn't since I've had the car. Oil is crucial to the well-being of a Rotary engine, due to the very high revs achievable. I hope this helps others who may be fooled by this pretend 'gauge'.

I must say this Mazda RX-8 is the finest car I have owned in it's class. The car not only looks swift and agile standing still it is. Handling and cornering are it's highest qualities. The six-speed transmission is in my opinion is by far the way to go. The feeling of shifting up and down trough gears is enough to put a smile on my face. The feeling of accelerating through thrid gear into fourth hearing the engine rev up the engine always wanting to give more and more. This car was made to... (read more)

The Mazda RX-8 is still stunning and still offers excellent value for money.Having ordered the one of the first RX8s off the internet before they arrived in England, which was quite daring for an accountant, I still get a buzzzz out of the car. I rarely use it for work and have clocked up 30,000 miles of pleasurable driving. It cruises when it has to. It performs when it has to. It easily takes four adults and their weekend luggage on long trips when it has to. (read more)

Having owned the Mazda RX-8 car for 5 months I am totally in love with it. Everytime I accelerate in this it brings a smile to my face. Handling is superb. Its very spacious as well and the I love the looks on people`s faces the first time they see the rear suicide doors.

I average about 20 mpg and although poor I was aware of this before buying it. Ditto the oil checks. However both of these are totally acceptable as the car is so much fun to drive. I am lucky in that i own 2 cars so... (read more)

Written on: 20/12/2005 by johnlich (4 reviews written)

Much has been made of the Mazda RX8's thirst for fuel. I have averaged 17.4 mpg to date with a best of 25 mpg on a single tankful. To put this into context this is much the same consumption as I got out of my Nissan 200SX which was a turbo-charged 2 litre coupe of similar performance to the Mazda. So you need to go into RX8 ownership with your eyes wide open to this and the fact that you will be adding a litre of oil every thousand miles to the engine.

Get over this hurdle and you will be... (read more)

Written on: 14/10/2005 by MartinD (1 review written)

If I drive the Mazda RX-8 very gently, I get to 22 MPG on the highway - I've never done better than 24 MPG, even on long highway journeys.

Heat to the windshield and console is great - I literally can't feel any heat at my feet.

On days when it gets above 80F, the car runs really badly and often just won't accelerate for up to a mile when I take off from the lights..... (read more)

I have had my 2004 red Mazda RX-8 6 speed for a year now.
I love it more each day.
I still can't believe I own this car!

The number of people who comment on this car still blows me away. The looks just can not be matched by other sports cars at near of even over the price.
I was parked in front of a G35 on sunday and people were walking by commenting on my car and not even noticing the more exspensive convertable behind me.

I have no regrets with this car and love the feel and sound of it... (read more)

Having owned an Mx-5 I had no qualms about ordering an Mazda RX 8 sports car for my partner after seeing it at the Birmingham motorshow in 2003. Ater a long wait it finally arrived in December 2004. We were not disappointed. The car in Winning Blue looks great - a real head turner. The rotary engine is smooth and turbine-like and the rev range takes some getting used to. You have to keep reminding yourself not to change up at 6000 revs but to hang on to 8500 when you are hurrying. The noise... (read more)
