Good Points: Comfortable drive, easy to maintain, economical.

Bad Points: Dealer isn't great, quirky car (expected though, it is a Citroen).

General comments: I have found my Citroen C5 to be an excellent example of poor engineering, it is currently sitting outside my house with a suspension fluid leak, which you may think is bad, let me explain why this is not so. This is the first suspension problem I've had, it is a 52 plate Jan 2003 C5 lx 2.0 HDi 110, it was purchased by myself on Jan 2006 with 35k on the clock, it now has 213k on the clock and yet still I can get 65MPG on a long run, and still overtakes with ease, it never requires oil top ups between servicing and the only annoying ongoing problem is that it eats headlight bulbs, this in my mind makes this a GREAT car.

We bought this Citroen C5 fitted under warranty. We then had to have a new gearbox costing £3000 as it was out of warranty. Citroen UK would not even discuss this, the gearbox had broken a piece of the actuall bell housing in the casting inside the box to me this has to be a warrenty claim as I think the casting is defective.

Because of the technology, the Citroen C5 2.2HDi Exclusive Saloon can be costly servicing, eg. a comment came up which stated diesel additive minimum level. I checked my faithful manual and was instructed to contact my dealer. I thought it was a simple case of adding some type of lubricant, how wrong was I? Total cost was £410! It turned out I had to replace several items to leave the car right. This did not impress me! It's a good car but like all modern motors, cannot be worked on by yo ...

If you can get a good high spec itroen C5, go for it! These cars are typical Citroen. Loads of quirks but they are so gorgeous to drive, you can forgive the French engineering.

The Citroen C5 suspension should not have collapsed after such a moderate mileage. The car is only 4 years old. Collapse preceeded by loud (I mean LOUD) 'tang' noises, like driving over loose manhole cover. Got louder and louder. Pedestrians started to look as it was so loud. Local garages could find no cause, howver, Worleys Citroen in High Wycombe said both sides of rear suspension had collapsed. Huge cost, but then the boss of this moderate small town dealership drives a top of the range Ast ...

I would recommend the Citroen C5, I think it is so good I have just ordered another. It is the most comfortable car I have ever owned.
