“Chase no fees foreign exchange is rubbish”

★☆☆☆☆

written by Hottie10987654321 on 04/10/2013

Asked to exchange $1000 usd for rmb the rate that month was 6.12-6.15. They offered me $5530 = 5.53 exchange rate. Chase says its no fees. I called back in 1 hour to cancel and teller said cant do it. Next day didn't pickup $5530 told her to give me back usd. I got about $900 back. Because they took it back at 6.12 rate. They should be sued for such a ripoff. Rates were not posted or told to me until after the transaction was done and I took hold of my receipt. NEVER use CHASE bank for foreign exchange. 10% ripoff average

“WORST EXCHANGE RATE EVER!”

★☆☆☆☆

written by on 21/05/2012

Went in to branch and asked to exchange $1100 American into Canadian $. Advised they would call me in a couple of days when it came in. When I went to collect it I ended up with $1050 Canadian! I questioned the rate since I was advised they didn't make a charge for exchanging money. Well they didn't make a charge but the gave me a HORRIBLE Exchange rate, which is the same in my book. I should have got about $1130 Canadian Dollars so I'm out $80! I asked if they would cancel the transaction and re-deposit my $1100 and they can keep the $1050 Canadian. Of course they wouldn't do that and said if I wish to exchange the $1050 Canadian back to Dollars they'll give me $972 for it so that would mean I lost $128 just for the experience. I could have done better just exchanging the money when I got the Canada! DON'T EXCHANGE MONEY WITH CHASE, THEY'LL ROB YOU!

“Went to a local Chase branch here in Los Angeles to...”

written by on 31/03/2011

Went to a local Chase branch here in Los Angeles to get a quote for exchanging some US Dollars for Chinese Yuan. I saw on Chase's website that they do perform foreign currency exchanges, yet the employee helping me didn't seem to understand what I was asking them to do. After trying to help them figure it out (that it stated they do this action based on their own website), then waiting and letting them go in the back to do who knows what for 10 minutes, the Chase employee came back with one number written on a post-it note (it was the amount of US currency per 1 yuan), however when I asked them to verify exactly what the number was, they were confused once again and couldn't tell me. I asked them to give me a figure based on per 1 USD, so they called in the back and quoted me a ridiculously bad conversion rate that came out to even worse than the figure written on the post-it note (over 20% less than the spot conversion rate!), so I got out of there without using the service. All I wanted to know was that conversion rate quote to compare it with other currency exchange quotes, yet it took them nearly 20 minutes to tell me it! Horrible service and a ripoff quote, yet not a surprise from Chase.

Yeah, basically, they are literally the worst company to do a foreign exchange with -- they're basically money launderers, except they are also a publicly traded company. Go figure.

I recently had GB Pounds wired from the UK. Chase gave me an exchange rate of 1.397 on a day when the pound was trading above 1.45 and closed at 1.462
This difference amounted to over $500

“I send money back to Australia at least once a month. ...”

written by kentmcguire on 23/03/2006

I send money back to Australia at least once a month. Chase sets a flat fee of $40USD + they take between 3-5% fee in the actual rate. Way too expensive but I don't know where else to go. :(
