My 2000 ford contour with the 2liter 4 cylinder dohc engine just turned over 270,000 miles. With proper maintenance and care this car has been excellent.

The Ford Contour is the most unreliable automobile i've ever bought. Most of the problem is the motor, the 2.0 liter DOHC is of very poor quality. If you by a Contour you better get the 6 cylinder version. Otherwise you made a bad mistake. I've always owned Ford's but this car is gone as soon as we can get it fixed. Ford Contour: It has the 2.0 dohc motor, good power, seems like it might need a fuel filter, Has a automatic transmission ,RPM,S fall low when transmission shifts, I've only owned the car probabely 5 months, need a few things worked out, leave that up to ford service. Just had new timming belt put in, $350.00. It's the gl model, I think it well be a nice car when I get it fixed,

My '96 Ford Contour just turned 99,500 miles and I have had no major problems. New brakes, new water pump, and new mass airflow sensor. Not bad for an American sedan with that many miles.
Gas mileage is great! 32 or better on the highway (with the 4cyl 2.0)!

A fast light sedan that kills most of the competition when mated to a MTX transmission.
