Good Points: Interest & demutualisation benefit

Bad Points: Administration/service is shockingly bad

General comments: There were two members of staff on duty at Skipton Building Society on Saturday morning, one of which was a knew nothing of Child Trust Funds and general duties. Took over an hour to open account. Advised that passbook and details of paying in to be sent in post in 2 weeks as it takes that long to be activated. Nothing heard or received for 1 month, so unable to pay in. I had to call them twice to find out that actually nothing gets issued apart from the certificate. Had to ask for details of how to to pay in to the account. (sort code, Building society number etc)..... on hold for 10 minutes...... I will be closing this account and moving it to a provider with a comparable interest rate and superior customer service.

I had to bring my daughters birth certificate and my passport along with the Child Trust Fund Voucher and five minutes later it was all done. I know that some banks offer a joining gift; Skip ...
