Top car autoreisen promises on their website that there's no full tank payment above the rental price. Well, they LIE! When we arrived in Gran Canaria we were charged with an extra 50 euros for the full tank. So watch out! They are just like the other car rentals except the others tell you about the extra charge. Was specifically looking for car hire that didn't load fuel costs up-front as we knew we would only be using the car for getting from/to airport to Maspolamas and a couple of local trips. However, when we collected car, we were charged E55 for fuel with an explanation that as our return flight was early morning and the office would be closed, that we had to pay for a full tank and return empty as no-one would be available to check the fuel when returning the car. Straight forward pick up and we were told to return the car with the same amount of petrol as we had in it. Car return was also easy. The car was a well used Ford Fiesta, sluggish but adequate. When we boarded our plane we realised that we had left our own GPS Sat Nav in the glove compartment in the car. Very cheap car hire with no hidden costs,, The staff at airport were veryhelfpul and processed our paperwork very quickly and within 10 minutes we were in our hired citron c3. Car was spotlessly clean and in good condition. On returning our car it was very straightforward and organised, we just parked in designated car space and returned keys to the kiosk at the parking bays. Cheapest by far on-line - no hidden extras such as CDW or fuel. One of the very few companies to provide baby/child car seats, full stop, but Autoreisen do them for free! This Xmas I hired a 5 door a/c from Autoreisen Lanzarote Airport for 8 nights. Good points - it was only 105 euros, you return it with the same amount of fuel, so theres no scam, and you can complete the paperwork in the arrival hall and not pre-pay. Bad points - the car was an old Skoda Fabia with 78000kms on and well battered. 4th September 2012 Tenerife South. Having had great experience with Goldcars at Mercia Airport I was surprised at the overall poor reviews so decided to rent from Autoreisen in Tenerife South, again, based on reviews. Mistake! My Ford Focus had 104,000 km on the clock and had dents and scratches on every panel. As timeshare user we visit Tenerife every year for last 6 years. Up until this year we had been very happy with the quality and age of the car from Autoreisen TFS - However, this year we ended up with a 130,000Km Seat Ibiza that was appalling. I complained about this to the Admin people but was told this was all they had despite the fact that there was at least 60+ cars sat outside. Used Auto Reisen Car Hire in Lanzarote. They were brilliant. Use them or be stung by fly by night competitors. A lot of holiday car hire people will try and rip you off on fuel. Charging 70 EUR for a full tank on a Corsa which only has about a 40 litre tank is about twice what you'd pay at the pump and it's frankly daylight robbery. You'd need to drive round Lanzarote about 4 times in first gear to use up that much fuel. Avoid these people and go to Auto Reisen instead. Pay when you pick... (read more)

Have used Autoreisen in both Tenerife and Lanzarote collecting and returning car from airports. All very easy. Quality of cars has been for the most part very good, just one exception when we had underpowered and slightly tatty Seat Ibiza. Having used Autoreisen a few times in the past I stupidly made the mistake of going with GOLDCAR on my last visit to tenerife, which without going into it, they were a complete rip off merchant. The title expresses my key complaint. Online, every car (and class of car) for rent is shown to have a radio. My automatic -- rented 3/12 from the north airport on Tenerife -- did not. By the time I realized this, I was more than half way down the island. Autoreisen has not responded to two emails asking them for a partial reimbursement. Just returned from a holiday in Tenerife, where we had the missfortune to use Autoreisen for our car hire. We were expecting a Citroen C2, but on arrival were given an old model Ford Fiesta. Externally it looked clean from a distance, but had numerous dents and knocks. The internals looked worn and had ground in dirt. My wife and I have just returned from a 2 week holiday in Tenerife. We ordered an economy car with air conditioning, our experience was as follows: Car 1 - Seat Ibiza - Air con inadequate. I hired a car from TOPCAR Auto Reisen, for 3 weeks in Aug/Sept 2011. .I returned it cleaned out , all but some sand from the towels. For this I was charged £60 which was taken from my account without permission. I was informed that it was supposed to have been removed from my £200 deposit that they have newly started to take from your account on collection of the car. (A new rule I was informed). The car was OK (Peugeot 207, 40k km, good state, only few minor scratches), the pick up on the airport was smooth and quick (no queues) and very easy to understand. The car was parked a stone throw from the terminal building and the value-for-the-money was outstanding (220eur/11days with full-cover insurance). I hired a car at Lanzarote Airport for 9 days and during the period, it so happened that on one of the island roads, I hit one piece of steel that was on the road. On handling the car back to the company, I informed the man at reception of the accident and that one of the wheels was damaged. I was told that this was due to abuse from myself !!! Rented through internet a Renault Megane Convertible for 4 days in Gran Canaria with Topcar Autoreisen.
At arrival the paperwork was VERY slow. Nothing was ready. 3 people in the agency but all seemed busy doing nothing!!!!!
The good side... As allready said, we rented a Renault convertible and got a brand new VW EOS convertible.... The car was in excellent condition!!!

Having been ripped off during previous visits by the prepayment of fuel scam, I decided to try this lot and can heartily recommend them. 119 euros for a Skoda Fabia with nothing extra to pay. The collection and return was effortless and I kept waiting for the hidden extras which never materialised!
The interior was clean and undamaged.
The exterior wasn't all it could have been and the rear wiper was missing plus a noisy wheel bearing. But hey, we're talking Lanzarote not touring the USA...

You can attend the desk whilst in the luggage collection area and it was a quick efficient service.The price was as stated with no hidden extras. Being very concerned with the extras the big companys add on for full insurance cover, excess on claims and fuel. I though I would try autoreison as they have no such extras and are all inclusive and just return with same amount of fuel, so no chance of being 'stung' there.
After researching I was under no illusions, the reason they are so cheap (119 euros for ten days) is that the cars are kept longer and wear and tear bodywork damage is not repaired.
My conclusion is, for me I wish I had...

I researched all the major hire companies in Tenerife and the price varied. We have a baby, so 5 door important and car seat also. Most companies stated it was pay for the car seat on arrival, no good for me as on average it would be £40 for the week, just for a plastic seat! I like to know the full price in advance. Autoriesen were the only company that gave you the full price up front. This included free options like additional driver and all insurances required. They dont try to sting you... (read more)

Just to put this into perspective. For the amount of money you pay it is relatively good value. Yes some of the cars are bashed about a bit, but bear in mind there's no excess to pay no charge for an extra driver and you return the car with the same amount of fuel as you recieved it.
I have used Auto Reisen about 10 times and NEVER had any hassles from them. In fact I'm just going to book up again for March 19th 2011.

I booked a Renault Twingo for 12 days at Tenerife South Airport. It turned out to be about 15 years old and was rattly and smelly. The clutch was difficult to operate as it engaged only at the last moment. The cost and insurance cover was good but there is a standard below which any car presentd for hire should not fall. I wonder if these cars are required to pass a Government test for safety and roadworthiness. (read more)
