As a whisky in general, as compared with scotch, Irish, Tennessee, or Kentucky whiskey, the Black Velvet Reserve is a very smooth sipping, smooth, well-tasting Canadian blend for the money it costs. It is a few dollars more than the Black Velvet, but worth it. I typically spend more than 30 dollars for a fifth, sometimes. This is the first Canadian I have tried. This is rather soft or mild as opposed to some Kentucky bourbons I have tasted. I paid eleven dollars plus tax for this fifth.
