Well everything has drawbacks and nothing can be so perfect. I had this card basically to kick start my wrecked credit file. 12 months prior to having excellent ratings on files. Got £40 cash back at TCB and this card with £500 limit after a phone call at start of application. Had no credit increases in 12 months but in 15th month I had £1k increase to gold service. Always paid back in full via direct debit but with debit card payments made apparently for minimum amounts to avoid… Read Full Review

Other drawbacks were that it does not have mobile friendly apps and has no call centre service for out of hours emergency contact for security measures.
Website debit card pay has pop up page that my device permanently blocks it so I have used phone calls to pay off balances if required.
EVanquis is a good page saves them postage and paper.

I gave 1 star less because shopping around for car insurance does not come cheap as I had taken cover at multiple insurers to shop around for cheaper ones that meant my savings were on ransom demand and I was out of pocket. That's where Vanquis should have helped but never mind sometimes good family member are literally your only survival hope when it all options are out on strikes.

You people can avoid 0871 number by dailing landline friendly numbers, just google saynoto0870 and search it.

It's a very good credit score build I have had mine for 4 months now always pay on time without any fail of doing so. It would be very nice to have a mobile site or even a mobile app to keep track of your account. Would be nice to get a credit increase hopefully soon! I would recommend this to my friends and family. “Constant marketing calls”

While I am happy with the facility of having the card should I need it, I would not suggest getting a card from these people are they are constantly calling me (sometimes twice daily), asking me to go through security. I refuse to do so as I made clear when I got the card that I didn't want marketing phone calls - a request they appear to have ignored. You're screwed for 6yrs anyway. Your credit score means nothing! If you have satisfied defaults there are as bad as unpaid defaults. Living beyond your means and giving advice to others about "don't spend what you don't have" you do make me laugh coming from a person who spend beyond there means..

Vanquis states it will consider a credit limit increase on your 4th statement and will start to consider you increases every 4mths providing your keep other credit commitments in order and maintain your account effectively = LIES it is now nearly my 5th statement and no limit increase never missed payments make large instalments off my balance etc.... £250 limit is no good to anyone all it is doing is damaging my credit rating due to my limit-balance ratio..... It doesn't say in any of there literature you will get a credit limit increase every four month. To be honest I wouldn't give anybody credit if they have screwed up there credit in the passed. Wait another month then if it hasn't been increased close the account. Unless you're so desperate for a vanquis credit card in your wallet/purse

“Disorganised company”

When I first set up my vanquish card I told then I wanted to pay in full by direct debit every month , I make sure the moneys in my account to pay in full every time , the first time my payment was due I assumed I payed by direct debit as that's what I arranged then I get a letter saying I have a late charge of 12 pounds so I rang them up and they said I hadn't set up direct debit which I had when first purchased the card (well was meant to have ) they apologised admitted it was there fault… Read Full Review

“Solid helpful credit.”

I have a low credit rating but was still granted a Vanquis Credit card which I am very grateful for (ever tried paying for a hotel room with a debit card?) Every bank has the right to set their terms withing legal boundaries. Vanquis interest seems very reasonable to me. I paid just about £10 on a balance of about £500. “Customer Service is non existent”

Although this company are genuine they do charge high interest rates. They have no idea of the concept of customer service and appear to have very little means of doing anything other than processing payments. I broke my card some 5 months ago and despite several requests for a new one its now 5 months later and no fewer than 16 attempts/calls I still have not been allowed a new one. I sent in my bank statements as requested by vanquis on the 29th July 2014 recorded delivery, it's now 21st August and 15 phone calls later and although it's been signed for they say they have not revived it?? And now after the 16th phone call to This 0871 they say to resend my documents to the fraud dept at the same address I sent my documents to previously?? Worst experience of my life! You get charges from nowhere, no letters or statements to explain the charges until you get their phone call. Also their contact number is charged at a high rate. I used my card once for £30 and had to pay £110 in charges even when I paid back the £30 pound previously on time. I have closed my account now after having to pay of all those charges. Where to begin? I'm just so pleased with the results. I have been a Vanquis customer for over 3 years and have been using their card for purchases to short term cash withdrawals. If I couldn't afford to pay off the balance in full, then I would pay back within three to four months at the most. My job has been stable enough to make borrowing less risky, in terms of repayments. 3/5 does not mean anything. You can still be refused credit with a score of 5/5 for example. Some people who have been bankrupt multiple defaults still have a score of 5/5 so are you saying those people will still get credit. I have a score of 1/5 with call credit and I get the best deals despite them saying that I wouldn't. I only have the noodle one because it's free. People like you pay monthly fees to see a score. I use to work for Experian,so trust me with what I am going to say. Credit companies with never take any notice of those scores as it does not show up on there systems. When CRAs credit check all that happens is it checks for negative information. If you don't have any and you carry a debt balance over every month you will get credit. If you pay your debt of every month the chances are you may be declined as you ain't making them any money. Multiple searches ,ain't to good either. Don't waste money paying CRA monthly fees.

Had one of these for 8 months now applied online got a phone call next day offering initial limit of £1000. I didn't provide a landline number just my mobile. I use the card to build my credit score back up after a default with Capitol one. I use it to purchase fuel then pay the off in full or there abouts every month and on time. Still not had a credit limit increase at all but I do have around 8 numbers from vanquis blocked on my phone as they hassled me constantly trying to sell PPI… Read Full Review

I took this card out after being young and stupid with money and getting into debt a few years back in a view to rebuild my credit. It's a good card as long as you pay your balance in full every month! But when you do have an issue they are very reluctant to help so these days I just tend to stick to the online e-vanquish service, as you cannot go wrong. I work at vanquis "executive relations" I think you have been lied to. We don't have a call centre in Jo-berg. Our offices are in London,Chatham,Bradford. Inbound calls such as customer service are in Chatham. Collections are based in Bradford.Retention's and admin are in London. So I am afraid I agree with previous comments. I also find your comment strange. Everybody who is successful in gaining employment at vanquis is credit checked,so I am somewhat surprised you gained employment. Why would you ask a customer service agent if vanquis have a centre in Jo-berg,when you supposed to have work there. Very strange.

After six months closed automatically. Such rubbish. You make the rules up as you go along, or perhaps it's THE SYSTEM!

Hadn't used my card in two years. Applied for a new one and had to go through usual address, security etc., got a new card delivered fairly quickly but because I didn't use the card in six weeks THEY decided to cancel it [or perhaps it was THE SYSTEM]. Pathetic explanation, just glad I got a free phone number for these ......
