Abysmal Client Service
I went overseas last year to receive specialised medical treatment for a serious medical issue that I could not afford in the UK. Nationwide were notified of this. Then they locked me out of the internet bank, which made it impossible for me to transfer money over to the account to pay bills while I was away, then they charged me late fess & ridulously high charges. They were advised of an Email address to contact me on whilst I was overseas but decided to send letters to my old UK address instead, needless to say I never received the letters.
I have now had enough of this pathetic unprofessional so called service and have notified all friends and family in the UK of the disgusting manner in which a client of long standing is being treated. They are also disgusted with their condust and are now closing all there accounts with all Nationwide concerns, including savings accounts, loans and mortgages.

NATIONWIDE BUILDING SOCIETY. Formerly a first class customer friendly Building Society. Since take over of Board Members, remuneration has gone through the roof and the society has gone downhill fast. Customer Service in branches is absolutely abysmal as centralisation to the Swindon HQ has taken place. Telephone customer service is a joke with individuals not empowered to DO anything other than utter platitudes and promise that an advisor will call back. THEY NEVER DO. I am sad at the changes ...- Read Guest's review (127 words)

I've been with Nationwide since 2006 and have always found the service good. Granted that some of the rates and charges are not as competitive as in the past, but they still remain keen compared to the competition. I do most of my banking on the internet now, and the Nationwide service is very good, offering a fair degree of functionality. I also think that the ability to use debit and credit cards abroad at minimal cost remains the best feature of the service, never feeling ripped off on checki ...- Read Guest's review (94 words)

Incredibly poor customer service. When Nationwide make a mistake (which seems to be about 3 times a year for me) they leave it to the customer to sort out the issue.- Read Guest's review (38 words)

After years of being a loyal customer of Nationwide and very happy the last few years has seen a consistent and sad decline in customer service and in fact the products are less competitive too. For example the free overseas use of a credit card is on the way out. Interest on cheque account is now tired dependent upon income and the once brilliant e-savings account is a sad example of its former self.- Read unhappyhsbccustomer's review (118 words)

I applied for a FlexAccount via the Internet on 14th July and took my ID into their Salford City Branch on the 21st July. I contacted the New Business Centre on the 28th July to find out the progress of my application. This was when the Building Society's incompetence started to shine through. The representative was telling me that a fault had occurred with the application and they would sort it out; so I left it in Nationwide's incapable hands.By the way, the New Business Centre is the only way ...- Read juicedry's review (346 words)

I've been a Nationwide customer since they took over Anglia Building Society.
Only had one problem, when I was locked out of internet banking by having three failed logins. I'm sure I used the correct logins
After reading that it would take up to 7 working days to send me a new login password, I complained very loudly, suggesting I would move my substantial savings elsewhere, as I couldn't not have access to my money for (which it could have worked out)two weeks, I received a new password two da ...- Read savingexpert's review (96 words)

I moved to nationwide for the 0% charge on foreign purchases. I had to apply 3 times as they kept messing up the application.Their online site is what you would expect an online banking site to be in the 1990's/early 2000. Very simplistic, does not download straight into your ms money (unless you have a linked up uk version) or bother with quicken. The transaction details are non existent (line item is 'atm withdrawal', no mention of location, etc., and this is for all purchases)All in all the ...- Read Guest's review (154 words and 1 comment)

23rd August
On the 23rd of August I went into the branch to open a current account, everything was processed in branch and was then sent to the head office where the account would be set up. I was assured I would have my card in 5 - 10 days.
23rd September
I went into the branch on 23rd September and asked to speak to the girl who had originally set up my account. She promised she would contact head office and get back to me.
24th September
I got a call back the next day where she told me what h ...- Read paulak2610's review (291 words)

Nationwide's CardReader device defeats the purpose of their online banking facility. You now have to carry the card reader and your debit card around with you to perform transactions online! Completely daft.- Read specklepilot's review (32 words and 1 comment)

My family have banked with Nationwide for the past 25 years. As you can see from the above pros and cons - we have a wide variety of accounts with them as a family.
I have always found the branch staff to be dedicated to members' interests and want to do whats best for the custoemr not what the latest selling point is - which is so disheartening about the banking sector. Their accounts are ran with professionalism for the most part, though account rates for savings have taken a severe drop of la ...- Read piriepirie's review (224 words and 1 comment)

I had a flex account, no overdraft, nothing just an account, well one day my work paid in my wages, but then decided to withdraw my money back, unknown to me, as nationwides cash machine said I had the money allowed me to withdraw 300 quid, then a following 250, all this to pay my bills and rent, I then recieve a a statement, not a letter stating I am now 550 pounds plus 100 pounds in charges overdrawn on an account which should never been able to happen.
To cut a long story short, I finally man ...- Read slysocks's review (128 words and 1 comment)

My daughter (K) shares a flat with her friend (D). K has a direct debit set up with Nationwide to pay the rent and D pays her half into K's account. Last August D didn't have enough money in her bank account to transfer to K's account so she withdrew some cash from another account and tried to pay that over the counter into K's account. The cashier said they weren't allowed to accept cash from a third party. When D asked why, the cashier said it was to prevent money laundering. Overall, since moving to Nationwide building society some 18 years ago I have never once been let down or disappointed. Their service is very efficient with good advice and offers are always available. They offer a wide range of products to tailor everyone's needs. The staff and customer service are excellent. Their Internet banking site is certainly the best I have ever seen, good navigation, easy to use and very secure. The only bad comment I have is that there can be very long and slow mov ...- Read kman35's review (91 words)

Tried transferring mini-cash ISA from Nationwide to Kent Reliance around 19th June. Nationwide sent letter saying my account was closed 6th July and cheque sent to KR. KR never received the cheque. Have made dozens of futile calls to Nationwide Electra House Helpdesk trying to get them to stop the cheque, reactivate my account, add the lost interest and then reissue new cheque by registered post. Its now the 27th July and none of the people I spoke to have bothered to take ownership or take any ...- Read MADGOLFER's review (218 words)

They are driving me mad, I filled in a form to transfer My mini cash ISA into a Nationwide 2year ISA Bond on 11th April 2007, it is now 2nd july 2007 and despite numerous phone calls I still do not have an account number and I only have their verbal assurance via my phone call that they have my £20,000. They have not written or returned any of my phone calls. If I could easily get at my money without loosing it's Tax free status I would be happy to never have anything to do with Nationwide ...- Read potts's review (101 words)
