"C I Am 15," the new single from ex-Beta Band frontman Steve Mason under his King Biscuit Time alias is a quirky piece of relaxed dance music perfection. Making use of a variety of unusual percussion sounds, Mason weaves a hypnotic melody, lulling the listener into tapping his feet along with the chanted chorus of "C I am 15...." This is the sort of song that you hear once and find yourself nodding along and when you hear it again you'll recognize it instantly, start singing along and not know why. But eventually it will simply inhabit the inner reaches of your brain. Mason's style is unique, outside of the Beta Band it would be difficult to find anything that sounds remotely like this: it has a strange country twang, guitar plucking straight out of a '70's porn film, tribal dance beats and a political rap, courtesy of Topcat, laid across the last minute of the track. Overall it's a brilliant and welcome return from a truly enigmatic songwriter.
