i flew with QR for the first time this past week in economy class going from IAD-DOH-DEL and back.

had a very pleasant flying experience both ways. only the leg from DEL-DOH was full. the seat next to me was empty in the other three legs.

all flights departed on time and landed early.

i requested VGML. breakfast before landing on the IAD-DOH leg didn't look very good, but the food was fine otherwise. ice cream on the leg from DOH-IAD was a nice surprise. they may have had it on the leg from IAD-DOH - i was asleep. i was pleasantly surprised that they served a full meal between DOH and DEL both ways - it's only a 3-4 hour flight.

IFE was okay - not a huge selection of movies or tv shows, but adequate. i found a couple of old favorites i enjoyed watching again.

transit through DOH was fine going from IAD-DOH-DEL. the shuttle took us from the airplane to the terminal - there are no jetways at DOH. proceeded through security like all others transiting through DOH without issue. went to oryx lounge and paid QR 140. lounge was nice and quiet, not busy. though, the airport wasn't that loud either. used the internet, had some hummus, tabouli, dates and tea. bathrooms were clean.

it was all good until i got to the security checkpoint before boarding the DOH-IAD leg.

many airports have a second security screening for flights coming to the u.s., so i expected this. what i didn't expect was how i was treated.

let me say up front that i could have handled myself differently to avoid what happened.

i had a waist pack and a tom bihn aeronaut (a duffle i wear as a backpack).

my waist pack went through first, followed by my shoes, then someone else's bag, then my duffle. the waist pack was in a small bin, along with my passport, boarding pass, and a book i picked up to read onboard.

i walked through the security checkpoint without beeping and waited. i was told to step back and wait while my hand bags came through - just like everyone else. and i did.

after the waist pack came through, a security officer opened it, examined the contents, and then sent it through. the bin was placed on the floor along with bags belonging to others that had cleared security.

while i waited for my shoes and duffle to come through, i picked up the bin and placed it on the counter to repack the contents of my waist pack.

another security officer did not like that i did this, and pointed back at the floor. i asked if i could pack my bag. he said to do it on the floor. i responded by saying that my back was hurting and asked if i could pack it on the counter.

he pushed me back, took the bin, handed it back to the security screener who had checked the contents and said something to him (i presume telling him to check it again). that security officer then took the contents of the waist pack and threw them out into the bin. i am not exaggerating when i use the word threw. i was being treated differently at this point than i had been up until i made the mistake of trying to repack my waist pack on the counter.

he threw out my iphone, my blackberry, and everything else. he emptied the slips of paper i had in a notepad. he threw out into the bin the travel cards i had in a little pouch pouch. he took pens apart. all of this was clearly to show me that i should do as i am told, not because he suspected any security concerns.

i watched while he did all of this.

after my shoes, someone else's backpack came out. the security officer asked if it was mine. i said no. he moved that bag onto the floor.

then came my duffle. the security officer checked it and found that everything was okay, and placed it on the floor with other bags that had been checked.

when i went to reach for the duffle, he saw that it was mine. at that point, he picked it up and said that it needed to be checked. i asked why and he wouldn't answer me. i am sure there was nothing in it that was remotely a security concern. i am sure it was not the size because there were many roll aboard suitcases that were bigger. i am quite certain it was because it was mine.

i explained that i had some items in there that i did not want checked and asked if i could get them out. he ignored me and handed the bag to a qatar airways gate agent.

i explained this again to the agent. i said i have my camera and other things.

the security officer kept saying to check the bag.

i asked the agent why. she said it must be because you have something, some liquid or something. i said, yes, i do have liquids, but they are all less than 100ml, pointing to the sign they had.

i again said to the agent that i have my camera in the bag, because that was the first thing that came to mind. actually, there were many other things that i had in my duffle that i would never check in, including my journal, some gifts i was bringing back, and the medicines i was taking for this cold.

the agent said to the security officer that i had my camera in there and that i wanted to get it out. i wasn't allowed to touch the bag. it was taken back to the security screening area, and they again went through my bag. i said, and repeated, that i can tell you where the camera is packed. they were not interested. they disheveled the contents of my duffle and finally located the camera. as they were going through the duffle, i saw my medications and said i also want to get those out. the security officer said no medicines and sent the bag with the gate agent.

i repeated to the gate agent that i was sick, that i had a cold, and asked why can't i have my medicines.

she lead me over behind her desk and said to get out what i need. she said to stay down (so that the security officer didn't see this). as i took out my medications, she said that they are doha police, there is nothing we can do.

so while qatar airways took care of me throughout the trip, there is no way i'm going to fly with them again because it involves going through doha.

Absolutely terrible airline. I only gave them 1 star because that's the lowest possible. Should be a zero. Worst customer service I've ever experienced. Staff in Athens was both rude and clueless. The flight crew was alright, but the experience on the ground was by far the WORST. I will never fly them again and go out of my way to let others know how incredibly bad Qatar's business practices are. If you must travel with them, keep your baggage to carry-on only. Anything more and you will likely ...

What I pay will be what I get. Qatar Airways is always on sale. It's not difficult to choose it when I aim at cheaper fare. Staff service and food are up to the standard, from what I pay. Just can't stand for other passengers who never wear deodorant. I don't mean one but many of them.

My 13 year old daughter flew alone from MUC to KTM on Aug 10/11. Instead of a 4h stopover in Doha it took Qatar Airways seven hours to find a plane continuing on to KTM. I always break out laughing when I hear 'The Five Star Airline'.

I had to cancel a Qatar Airways flight from Washington, DC to Kathmandu and was approved by airlines for a full refund on the same day. Seven (7) months later, I still have not received the refund despite calls, letters, e-mails and even in-person visits to the local Qatar Airways office and a call to their refund processing agent, ARC. I've recieved nothing but confusing information and the run-around. In desperation I wrote to the Qatar Airways headquarters in NJ, and received no response. ...

Qatar Airways is a good airline with friendly air-crew, on-time schedules, and good food. My entire trip from JFK to Hyd was very good except for the fact that transit in Doha was very uncomfortable. Doha airport is apparently under renovation/construction (not sure) and they don't have walkway bridges using which you directly getin/getoff the plane. They are still using the old form of ladder system to get in and getoff the plane. Once you get off you will have to travel in a bus and go to the ...

There were two major problems with Qatar Airways that caused the uncomfortable experiences and make me now think twice to fly again with Qatar Airways in the future " especially when it comes to travel with a baby/ small children. 1st caused was the chaotic system as we board to the plane from the bus at Doha airport and the unprofessional handling by the ground crews in assisting passenger. FYI: I am a mother of a 4 months old baby " during the boarding, no one was actually giving me neithe ...

    Cabin Appearance: Clean Presentable
Service at departure airport: Regular with no glitches, infact extremely co-operative check-in staff who helped me get good seats and confirm my child's meal! Plus the staff at LHR also gave passengers with kids priority so we could get on board conveniently!
Seats: What you would expect in all economy classes so no different from any other, in fact maybe a bit worse.
Meals: Although they provided a menu card and asked to choose options beforehand, the trolle ...

Qatar Airways is competitively priced. Doha airport is a mess. Security check to USA is insulting and demeaning. You are not allowed to purchase alcohol at the Originating airport Duty Free when flying into Doha, even if just for a connection; you're stuck with the poor selection at Doha Duty Free.

I literally paid the price - SEK1000 or over USD130 - for my charitable efforts. Qatar Airways were laughing in my face. I was taking 10kg of childrens clothing for a Nepalese orphanage. I was charged for 4kg excess baggage. Imagine my suprise when I got on the 2/3s empty plane.

Poor show Qatar Airlines, well below BA, SAS, and so far off Singapore Airways..

I would like to advise users of your website never to fly on Qatar Airways.I originally booked a flight to Delhi and back, one part of which Qatar Airways simply dropped a few days before I was due to fly out. They never contacted me about this as I only learned about it when I phoned their Gatwick number to enquire about an unrelated issue about the flights. As a replacement flight to the one they dropped (Doha to Gatwick), they put in place a flight that was supposed to fly out 11 hours later t ...

Doha is the worst airport I have ever seen in my life. Boarding with Qatar Airways is so un-organized. I saw security yelling at people. Very embarassing experience.

Qatar airways, like any other, is an airline that you have to learn between the good and bad aspects of the service provided. We are all different and have different things that we find important to the service provided in flight and on the ground. For me i like to check in early, relax in a lounge and then spend as little time as possible waiting to board the plane. Because of my finance economy flights is my only option. Once boarded my number one concern is getting as comfortable as possible an ...

I myself had an terrible experience on several occasions with Qatar Airways. The staff cant speak English, is rude, the Doha airport is a nightmare. Its not at all equipped to handle the volume of people and the queue was almost one hour for us as we landed in Doha together with many other flights as most were in transit to other destinations and they made us go through security again, which is fine, but only 2 lines open for one thousand people trying to make connecting flight. I missed my flig ...

I flew economy class into Hong Kong and out of Manila last year on Qatar. The service was quite good, and the food was as good as you can expect, though not exceptional. The staff were helpful and efficient, and were happy to ply me with alcohol to my liver's content. There was a good selection of entertainment on the seat-back system they have, though this system does mean that the person next to the window has a little less leg room as the unit which controls the entertainment for the seats is ...

I was really looking forward to my flight as I had a very good experience with Ethihad and thought that QATAR might just pip them to the post, boy was I wrong. As soon as I sat down I realised this was an old plane, tatty, my tray was really dirty and had to be cleaned and the leg room absolutely ridiculous for the length of flight. Anyway I thought things would get better and then I was handed a stale packet of nibbles and a bloody Mary which was so strong I had to decant it into another glass ...
