I have never put a foot wrong with Abbey, had accounts for a good number of years and six months ago applied for a mortgage, which was approved. As it was a re-mortgage, the transaction could have been completed as soon as possible (4 - 6 week estimate). Some 6 months later, I am still waiting, and in the meantime still paying a high rate of interest to my existing lender. Abbey's response? "These things happen". Professional, my foot!

Abbey are a truly awful bank! I had for about 1 year of using them a semi-alright experience, but I have recently started a new job as a apprentice and have admitedly gone over my overdraft a few times, but have since ammended this and don't but as soon as money goes into my account they just take it claiming false bank charges so I have to ring atleast once a week to get back and guaranteed every week I prove them wrong just for them to have to pay me my money back! Aswell as this the staff at ...

I graduated from University only 7 months ago... and since i began my time there i had a student overdraft with the Abbey of £1500.... once i graduated they automatically (without my say so) upgraded my OD to £2000, or the graduate OD, as they call it. Because of the current climate i have found it difficult to find a job, and am currently unemployed. Now the Abbey has sent me a letter demanding the entire £2000 back immediately, or i should cut the card up and face legal ac ...

Abbey used to be a good bank -I have banked with Abbey for over 12 years and used to find branch staff and call centre in the past helpful and knowledgable. Changes over last 4 years are not good.

I have banked with Abbey for over 12 years and seriously disappointed how their service has deteriorated recently. Abbey's internet banking is inflexible -you now have no choice but to have your business accounts linked to your personal banking, and cannot be issued with separate passwords etc. My business accounts suddenly appeared on my personal banking page WITHOUT NOTICE. As one of my business accounts is for a Club's finances, I wanted this kept separate. No chance. On trying to sort i ...

Abbeys customer services are arrogant and rude and very unhelpful from my experience. After sending payment online to my credit card, they recieved payment the very next day. I phoned my telephone banking two days later to find out my avaliable balance, thinking that the money had left my account. After spending down to my last thirty pounds before reaching my overdraft limit, I went back online eight days later, to find out that the money had only just left my account taking me over my limit th ...

My suspected my card has been compromised (identity theft?) and as you can imagine I'm a tad stressed about it. Did Abbey help? No.
I rang to ask about some unidentifiable transactions, the department said they would look in to it and "suggested" I stop my card, why is it a different dept I have to call separately? 10 days later no card, nobody at the call center will help me as they need to do a card search, whatever that is, I can't go on line to do it as my card is not valid and I can't pay b ...

I've had nothing but problems trying to get a replacement card sent as my old one expired on 31 May. For some reason, someone within Abbey changed my address to one that I have never heard of, and my new card was sent there. Their call centres are shocking. I used to be so pleased with the service from Abbey, especially as they seemed to have British call centres. Now they're outsourced, and I'm not being funny, but trying to get a simple thing like a new card issued has caused so much stress. I ...

I have nothing good to say about Abbey current account. I'm in the process of closing my accounts. Client service is awful. Too many automated messages. Waiting time too long. Too much passing to another dept. Also be passed from pillar to post and have to go through security for every new person you speak to (there will be more than one). My cards have been cancelled 3 times now for no apparent reason despite in 10 years never been overdrawn.

I have had this account for a number of years but I have become exasperated by unkept promises of return phone calls. I am about to transfer to another bank's account.

I've had it with Abbey - after 11 years they've finally upset me enough that I'm voting with my feet. If you're thinking of joining them, my advice would be to think again.

I hate Abbey! I have been a customer for 20 years and watched the decline into this current mess they laughably call a "service". They have no idea which departments exist and I am sick of being told to "visit my local branch" when my account clearly states that I have moved abroad. I have been told about 6 times that they do "not have a telegraphic transfer team" despite having sent letters and faxes to the team myself. A few days ago, I was transferred to 5 different departments, the 5th was a ...

A few years I moved my principle banking away from Abbey because they were not prepared to offer a bridging loan unless I took out a mortgage with them. The delays they caused in getting the bridging in place lost me the house I was after.
I am now shutting down my last Abbey account as I have moved house and Abbey are refusing to recognise my repeated instructions to change my address. They will not do it over the phone and have lost the written form they made me fill out. They would rather se ...

I've been with the Abbey for 10 years and I had a mortgage with them which they recommended a 5 year fixed rate and as soon as I took out the mortgage the interest rates fell BIG TIME. So i was paying well over £150 a month more than I should have. Ok fair enough these things happen, but occasionally I might be a little short for my direct debts, maybe only 3p and I know I'm to blame but there is no give or take with them. They will slap charges on you straight away even if I did phone up ...

I never had to call customer services often in the past, I had to a few weeks ago and was shocked at the difference of quality of service you get now compared to what it used to be a few years ago.
When the online banking website was experiencing some difficulties a few weeks ago, I have called them to enquire about the balance on the main page not corresponding with the balance on my statements and some transactions not showing on my statements page, I had an arrogant man on the phone and I as ...

I was with Abbey for about 8 years before they were taken over by Santander the Spanish Bank, then everything started to go downhill. I hate their call centres. You're not sure which country you will end up in, and the foreign staff all use English names, which is a personal pet hate. The charges were (I think they recently changed) horrendous, because of a mix up in d/ds (partly my fault) and a salary payment I had three £30 charges slapped on me for d/ds paid out. The call centre staf ...
