    I bought a Jaguar 2.0d x-type estate on a 05 plate 2 years ago.
I have no issues with the cars aesthetics, the leather seats are very nice, the extras such as rear park assist and electric / heated seats are all fine. My issue lies in the reliability of the car. I have only ever got 40mpg and we don't drive the car fast, so I'm not sure where the 48 comes from that Jag refer to! Also, the whole turbo needed replacing at a cost of £2000! Not really something you would expect on a 4 year old car with a hefty price tag. I've since found out that Ford have been fitting the Jags with dodgy 2003 spec Modeo diesal engines, which are prone to Turbo problems. Again, not something you would expect with the Jag brand. They really are ruining the Jag image and brand name! All in all, I wouldn't recommend a Jag, my old Seat Ibiza was much cheaper, more frugal and more reliable with pretty much all the same extras (exc the leather)!

My 55 Plate Jaguar X type 2.0 d Sport with leather and convenience pack, folding mirrors, rear park assist and mats (can't believe manufacturers still charge you for mats, oh thanks for the 22 grand and by the way that's another 50 quid for the mats).
This car has been very reliable and never left me stranded now on 82k miles, have owned since new. Paint Work looks like new with no stone chips to the front. Interior has worn well and still looks good. I read some of the comments and indeed it is ...

Not the most reliable car I've ever owned. Airbags failed due to wire rubbing against front bumper mountings. Has a flat spot between 3250rpm and 4000rpm that is often so noticeable you would think you'd lifted your foot off the accelerator. Dealer says there is nothing wrong with it. Then takes another £120 off me. This week it has started dropping into 'limp home' mode. Engine is still sweet as a nut it just appears to be all the other stuff around it that falters. Oh and yes I do have ...

The Jaguar X Type is a well designed car that are a dream to drive. They are great value for money and they are very frugal. They make you want to go fast as the acceleration is immediate and raw. Very comfortable and plenty of toys. So much so that my brother bought the 2.2 Sports Premium, 6 months after I bought my 2 ltr. what a car.

I've had a Jaguar X-Type for about a year now and all I do is put fuel in it and take it for a service, the car asks for no more - never gone wrong, broke down, missed a beat - nothing.

Apart from the problems I do love the car, and would have another, but with dark interior. The car I have is zircon blue with dove interior. Shame that Jaguar didn't fit the twin exhaust like 2.5 and 3.0 on the diesels. I have just done the self conversion to twin exhausts on mine and it transforms the looks.

An excellent motorway cruiser my Jaguar 2.0D Classic is a company car and I got it because it just crept under the £20k limit I was set and it sits on the drive next to my Jaguar XJR-S 6.0 V12.
Daily commute speed is 90-100mh. At 70 it is almost silent, at 100 you start to get more tyre noise.
The car has been utterly reliable apart from an intermittent boot lock fault.
Front tyres lasted 30k, rears 60k.
Build quality is excellent, no rattles. Startup engine noise is not in S-type/Chry ...

The best car I have had to date, much better and more reliable than the VW Golf GT TDi I had before which spent far to much time in service centre, having warranty work. Touch wood, this Jaguar has had no problems.

All in all an excellent car indeed. British through and through. The styling is a matter of taste - you'll either love it or hate it. It has a classic look which I love.

I have been a BMW car fan-buyer practically all my life. Until 2005, my 2001 BMW 328i fully loaded Estate started to bore me. Normally I miss my ex car for months after I change it, like an old shoe. Not this time, the Jaguar X-Type is perfect. Enjoying every mile, specially the manual gear, smooth and accurate. The interior is more plush than my ex fully loaded but bland BMW.
The torque makes it easy to drive in traffic as well as allows for secure overtaking. It has more space than my ex BMW ...

I have a 2005 'S' model Jaguar X-Type with full leather, and a few other bits and bobs incl. It has dynamic stability control (or whatever it's called). It replaced a lowly Mondeo (2002) diesel, so I was familiar with the engine dynamics. The seats are brilliant, and make me appreciate the handling of this car. It tickles along at 100mph all day long (not in this country). I drove two 4 hour journeys in one day, and felt 100% better than I did in the Mondeo.
    I recommend this car. I looked at t ...

The Jaguar X-Type Estate 2.0 Diesel is less than one year old and spends more time in the repair centre than out.
Jaguar assistance unhelpful when they should be assisting and not very good at co-ordinating replacements.

The Jaguar X-Type Estate 2.0 Diesel executive car is exceptionally good with respect to refinement and performance. Very good torque means that it is easy and relaxed to cruise at high speed.
The only critisisms are some features on the car are a little down-market such as the fuel cap release and the manual rear windows on the Classic model. A trivial annoyance is the lack of coin storage for road tolls etc.
Average fuel ecconomy achieved approx. 40mpg.
