    Good Points: economy, power, build quality


    Bad Points: none so far


    General comments: I have owned the gti tdi for 1 year now and coming from a line of BMW's and other hot hatches this is my first DIESEL and i have to say once you get used to the typical idle noise the car is really good, the speed is awesome once the turbo kicks in around 2500-3000 rpm all hell breaks loose, the mpg is amazing returning 40-48 urban and 50+ m/way miles. The reliability is so far perfect with mine being an 02 with 88000 on the clock. My only drawback is that most peolpe think i have stuck a GTI badge on a diesel car but im proud of my diesel and wouldnt mind a diesel badge on the back ( just so people know they have been left standing by a diesel hehehe) under the gti.

    The car in general very sporty looking, cheap to run, very good torque, spacious and comfortable seats for passengers, there is nothing I dont like about the car apart from the fact that I didnt perchase it sooner. For any future buyers I would personaly recommend this car 100%

    The car in general is very sporty looking, cheap to run, torque is brilliant, and when you put your foot down you get forced back into your seat. I would definitely recommend this car 100% to any future buyer.
    P.s. got to go can ' t wait to get back in it.

    Only just got the Volkswagen Golf GTI with 35,247 miles on the clock, bought from a VW approved garage in West Yorkshire. Overall the car feels great with bags of power, like someone else said the handling is not just as a true GTi, put that aside and look at the whole car then its not that big an issue. our car is rare it has heated leather seats which is a plus.
    Great car, hope to have it for at least 5 years, also there is such a car that has power and economy yes.

    Torque - wow did that thing pull. Cruising up that steep hill on the M5 near Bristol doing 80mph in 6th put my foot down and it was doing over a ton before I realised. The stability program really works too. Throw the car through some twisty road then do it again with it switched off, you can feel the difference.     Best car to date was a 1991 Golf GTI MK2 last of the Mk2 which was a fantastic car despite blowing the engine up several times I had that car for nearly 10 years and I kept it when I got a top of the range Saab 95 Aero which was quick but very juicy. So I flogged the Saab and stuck with the MK2 until I got the MK4 GTI with the TDI150 engine because fuel economy and performance is important for me.     I bought this Volkswagen Golf a year and a half ago following much research on review sites. I had recently moved some distance from work and needed a comfortable car with affordable running costs and an edge of excitement when the red mist descended. I was not disappointed with the Golf Mk IV - GT TDI PD 150. It is a great all rounder for a person who wants everything in moderation.

    OK so the Volkswagen Golf GTI may not be a Subaru or Boxster beater, but a good car all the same - and as someone said in their comments 50mpg and the performance (near enough) of the 4Motion - just a pity it's not so good when it comes to corners, or for that matter in the snow!

    VW Golf GTI TDI 150 mark IV.


    All that said, I would still recommend the car to any body, although the new Audi A4 is a real competitor at this level.

    If I now had to make the same choose I probably would have waited 6 months and got the new Audi 2.0 DSG TDI 140 BHP ( a little less power them my car), but the Audi is new and I don't know how green the grass is in Audi land, so take this recommendation for what it is.

    I have now had my Volkswagen Golf GTI TDi PD 150 Family Car for a year and covered 31,000 miles. I am very pleased with it. Good value for money, long service intervals and economical with fuel. I get around 55mpg with a mix of motorway, cross country and town driving. It is at it's best around decent A and B roads - with firm road holding in all weathers and little rolling around corners.     Volkswagen GOLF GTI TDI PD 150 has 50 mpg, 232lbft of torque, 6 speed gearbox - a fantastic (Porche Boxter S eater) car. For the price it is excellent value - practicle, understated, very fast and very frugal - and blows the pants of the Subaru Impreza!
