This is the best "charge" card on the market. Depending on the country you live in, the service levels will vary a lot. But AMEX is the only true card for anyone who travels extensively overseas. The amount of protection and service that you can get while travelling, by far outweighs the annual cost of the card. In addition, you have so many perks, which if you add up, far outweigh the cost of the card.

I can only recommend the American Express Platinum card to anyone who want more than just prestige!

I have an HSBC Platinum Amex card. Supposedly, this qualifies one for airport lounge access when travelling on certain airlines. But as the New Zealand issued HSBC Platinum Amex card has a 'silver fern' motif on its face, the airlines refuse to honour it. Nobody in Amex is willing or able to resolve this anomaly. And there are many other issues which are equally difficult to comprehend given that we are supposedly elite customers.

Have been an American Express cardholder since 1988. Started with a gold card and have been a platinum cardholder for at least 10 years. I have just had my notification come through that on my November statement it will show my £300 annual fee. Sorry to say, but I have today cancelled my membership after 20 years. I simply cannot justify the fee the card commands - sure it hasn't gone up from last year, but for what I use it for and what I get out of it, the ends don't justify the means.T ...

Basically I have had this card for 4 weeks and am considering cancelling it, the benefits are not what AMEX say they are, their customer service is very very poor. There is no such thing as unlimited spending on any of these cards platinum or centurion basically you build up a credit history on a month to month basis. The travel service is very overpriced and you can find better deals on the net. I am now looking for a better card with no yearly fees

I must say that for my business card, the annual fee is $395, and my personal even higher, I believe $450. I am a long time American Express Platinum holder since 88 and I haven't had a problem yet. Although everyone may not qualify, this card is worth striving for. It has also helped teach one responsibility due to the fact it must be paid off at the end of the month.

I have the CitiBank Amex Select card for my miles and that offsets the rough deal you get with the Companion tickets. The RewardsFirst program is pretty cool and the Starwood complimentary enrolment is worth it as well. The only complaint is that you have to shell out 9000 to fly to Europe for business class or 14000 for first class(my prices are from my airline of choice: Air France) Overall a fantastic card with a bit of a steep price. Truly it's first class!

American Express Platinum Companion Tickets ? Not the bargain you think it is.

I tried to book a companion ticket for my wife to a Caribbean or Mexican destination. When I called the American Express Companion Ticket office, I was told they only fly to certain destinations and you have to fly from a very limited number of airports to these destinations. It was very disappointing.and another thing, try to use the Airport Clubs, most of them do not have an agreement with American Express. ...

If you use your points to pay for the annual fee, it takes 90,000 points per year (20,000 points = $100).If, instead, you get the AMEX Blue Cash Back ... use that as your primary card, I should get the $450 back with spending $35-40k per year and still get the perks of the Platinum. It seems like such a waste for me to have two accounts when one will do ... just to get a better cost basis.

Lost card over seas in a small village by the ocean. Called night before - card arrived at my small hotel the next morning. Exceptional service with only one minor problem at airport.

Other than all the bad point the card is nice and customer service is nice. Not much else to say about the card.

Unbeatable travel services with my American Express Platinum. Breaks down my annual expenses by category, which makes for easy accounting. Free companion First Class/Business ticket when purchased on the card. There are a ton of benefits, but I'll caveat that you need to make enough money to afford the benefits. I recommend this card without reservations. You are likely to find some negative reviews about the company and the card out there.

I really like American Express and feel they will always look out for me if a problem arises. I grabbed the Amex Plattie because i've been with amex for about 8 years now and they've never done me wrong. I started with a 6k limit Platinum, then after a few years they bumped me to a gold. I stuck with that for a while, and then they put me to a unlimited platinum. Although some merchants shun amex because of their service charges, I am loyal to them and my next bump is to the flat black! That ...

I am not one to write reviews on the internet but I feel like this card should be lauded as a business traveller's best friend.

I needed to get some medical advice while in Asia and Global Assist Plus helped me and forwarded me to English speaking pharmacists and doctors late at night. This was appreciated.

Furthermore, I almost missed a flight and one of my vaccines went bad. I was credited for this purchase immediately, no questions asked.

Also, I have been slammed by several vendors ...

After 15 days of poor customer service, I have now cancelled my card, and I will hopefully receive a refund of my membership fee.

American Express need to become less arrogant!

Unless something better than the American Express Platinum credit card comes on the market, I wouldn't want to swap. I am still keep my Alliance & Leicester Visa card as a reserve, for the rare occasions when Amex isn't accepted. The card looks good too!

We have had the platinum cards for a month now. Until now, everything went wrong. We got this card on "invitation", but when we wanted to pay with it - it was not authorised. I told them where we were, and what the estimated amount would be, but we still had problems with the American Express platinum credit cards. It took 2 hours, and then we decided to pay with our old fashioned Gold card from Mastercard (35 Euro's per year). With this gold card, I can also put the spending limit on higher amo ...

Travel service has been horrific. Multiple times I have had to wait 20 - 30 minutes to get to a representative. The hours of service for the Vacation Package are not published on the website, nor are they stated during the on-hold message. I called once at 4:30pm PST and sat on hold for 25 minutes, only to learn that they were now closed for the day and I would need to call back the next day.

After finally reaching them to book my honeymoon, I was told I would get a response the next day ...

I traded up to the American Express Platinum Credit Card from a Gold, and I was apprehensive as to whether I would use all the services. I travel a lot, but mainly mileage and hotels. The flight offers are good, but I can get a better deal using the same software American Express do, without a processing charge (which was a little rich).

We have been saved by a few things though: In Sorrento, we had a damaged car due to the parking attendant, which was not noticed until we were back at the ho ...

I called Customer Services as a result of an incident described below. The service I received was appalling. They refused me access to a Supervisor and said the best they could do was provide a call back within 24 hours.

I was declined on a £150 purchase from Marks & Spencer. So much for no pre set spending limit. Perhaps it should say, no spending limit. I have now asked for a refund as I have no confidence in the card

This card in my opinion needs more exclusivity when it comes to extras. My Visa Signature has the same discounts as this card and is excepted in more places than the Amex Platinum. Whats good is the prestige of the card. The card still gets respect in some cases and the number of people who get the Platinum charge card percentage wise is still pretty slim so only those with great credit get it. Also the number of people who get the black card are very small also so having the Platinum Amex isn't ...
