If your looking for a mortgage provider DO NOT GO WITH NORTHERN ROCK!! They are an absolute joke. We took out a 100% mortgage with them just over 2 years ago. We now want to upsize and move into a bigger house. which is slightly cheaper then the place we live in now. When i rang them to ask if they were able to transfer the mortgage to the new property they said they would not and that they would only offer us a mortgage for 85% of the property!!! Meaning we would have to find thousands of pounds before we can move. We are now stuck in a house too small and no1 is willing to help us!!!! thanks for nothing NORTHERN ROCK !!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I URGE ANYONE LOOKING FOR A MORTGAGE NOT TO GO WITH NORTHERN ROCK !!!!!
These unscrupulous rip off merchants have absolutely no morals or sympathy for anyone that they offered a 100% mortgage to.

I have a 3 year fixed rate taken out in 2006, part loan part mortgage. I now want to move house with my "portable" mortgage but northern rock are not prepared to lend us the money or port it over. The other sting in the ass is that even if I do port it over to another mortgage with Northern rock, or sw ...

I bought a 3 year fixed together product with Northern Rock in 2005 with the help with costs option through an Indepdent Mortgage Advisor, these help with costs ( £750) would not be repaid as long as I stayed with them for 3 years 6 months. In Febuary 2008 I was told to look else where for a mortgage by Northern Rock as they couldn't of competitive rates - at this point they did not make me aware of clause in my contract that I would have to repay the £750.When attaining my redempti ...

After having an in principal decision of £240k from Northern Rock, and now really struggling to get a mortgage for £137k is a joke. We earn over £55k a year between us not including commissions and have excellent credit. We have had problem after problem, with them not believing paperwork which we sent them. I have had even had to go to the Inland Revenue to confirm that I am not a director of the company I work for, nor am I self employed or have shares within the company..... ...

I took out a together mortgage with NR to pay off an existing secured loan when moving house back in April 2006. Everything was fine up until now. NR has advised me to search for a remortgage elsewhere as their interest rates are too high. Problem is I have a -ve equity on my house now because of the additional loan, which makes it hard to get a mortgage elsewhere. NR says I'll need to settle both the secured and unsecured loan with them before leaving them or if I want to split the unsecured lo ...

I am disgusted at the service provided by Northern Rock unfortunately as I am on maternity I cant even swop my mortgage to another lender. I applied for a mortgage review and two times the application wasn't received by them coincidence I don't think, I was promised to have one sent special delivery in October and am still waiting for this I think its travelling by camel this has now resulted in my account being in arrears and myself receiving threatening letters and when I have spoken to the ad ...

Where do I start, quoted 10 day turnaround time as an EXISTING mortgage holder when I had to move and increase the mortgage. 37 days later and endless calls letters etc I am waiting for an answer. If I leave then there is a £4000 redemption penalty to pay plus fees lost and a whole heap of other costs that I have been saddled with. As of tomorrow I am homeless and in real danger of losing my chosen property. I have supplied the following and they are STILL stalling; P60 (06-07), 4 months p ...

All in all Northern Rock offer a great mortgage if you are starting out and have little or no savings. Also rates are good and the only down side is the tie in.

I must say first off, that we didn't actually have many problem within the 2 years we were with NR. We paid our amount every month as normal, and job done. They reared their ugly heads when we re-mortgaged elsewhere (although I also can't say much for the idiots we re-mortgaged with)!

Due to the re-mortgaging taking so long, we started paying the high interest payments from February 22nd (which we fully expected). This wasn't the problem. The problem was that until we finally swapped mortgage ...

Please find details up-to-date in a letter I am currently sending to Northern Rock:

With reference to the complaint case raised on the above application in joint names, I refer to my last call with yourselves on the 21st of February, where I was cut off during conversation at approximately 15:45 hours.
I had advised you at this point that I would like to raise a complaint regarding the issues I had with the above mentioned application.
The points I raised were that I had received a mortgage ...

Myself and my partner are first time buyers with no deposit, so we decided to go with NR and take their Together mortgage - because we wanted to complete home improvements and consolidate existing debts.

The initial call to Norther Rock was very good, and they explained everything, credit checked us and informed me I could receive £154K. I received an offer in principle and set about looking for a property. With the money needed for debts and improvements we had £133k to look for ...

I can't wait to leave Northern Rock once my mortgage tie-in period is finished. The day to day running of the mortgage is fine. However, as soon as you need to change product or move house, things turn bad. Their 'hidden costs' appear comparatively high, their documentation is misleading, and I would question the quality of staff training, as I'd often get completely different answers to the same question. In my last dealings with them I had to take my complaints to the FSA before they bother ...

Lost forms at Northern Rock for mortgage application, then lost information when it came to review the mortgage, then lost forms when it came to apply for further borrowing. They're only answer is to send out another form, which you can be fairly sure will get lost. I even sent the latest form by recorded delivery and they have a record of receiving it, but it still got lost!!!! And the fees i paid for anything i needed to do are ridiculous. I used to be a mortgage broker around 6 years ago and ...

Their customer service is appalling. They set up an incorrect direct debit on my current account before completion of my flat purchase. Two large amounts of money were taken from my account for 2 successive months. Although the money was refunded, I have still not received any offer of compensation from Northern Rock over a month after my first letter of complaint was sent.

We recently moved house and wanted to port our existing mortgage with us. It sounds simple, but the amount of problems we experienced with Northern Rock, from wrong advice being given to losing forms and cheques, it turned into an absolute nightmare. I was never able to get through on the phone, and I was either left on hold for over an hour before being cut off, or if I left a message, they never called back. I will be moving my mortgage from this company at the earliest opportunity.

I wanted to set up a mortgage with Bright Mortgage Advice, who after reviewing my position and needs gave me a choice, I went for the Northern Rock option and glad I did. I received an instant decison, a rapid valuation followed, topped off by an offer document, all within 1 week, Thank you.
