After 35 years I'm in the process of leaving the RBS. I went in to open a savings account to put a 6 figure sum of money in - member of staff started talking about house insurance! Told him to send me details. After a few months found they had set up a D/D in favour of themselves and I was paying out to 2 different insurance companies!! Took ages to unravel the mess.
Also went in to pay my credit card bill. Told I couldn't use my debit card as the amount was over £1,000 (although I sufficient funds in the current account). Another member of staff told me to go outside to the ATM and withdraw £300 and pay the rest on my debit card - crazy!
Anyway I've decided to go to an ethical bank where they don't have any Sir Freddies.

We have banked with the RBS for 11 years for the first 8 were great, the last 3 years have been very poor for customer service.
They mis sold a product to me, never return phone calls, unable to identify strange moneys going into and then out of my account, fail to set up simple standing orders.
Poor managment and they are managing your money!!!!!

I have always found that while I can walk into any bank and stand in a queue for up to an hour, when I walk into the Royal Bank of Scotland I never queue for more than 5 minutes. I have always found this aspect of their services and the Internet top class (although the Internet may have changed - and that would be BAD).

However, one aspect of the RBS that hasn't always been great is their ability to deal with out of the ordinary situations. Once you have a person you can rely on though, they ...

I recently moved to London after having lived in 3 other countries before the UK, and I have never had such a bad experience with a bank, even in the so-called Third World where my banking experience has been excellent!

The service that RBS offers is sub-standard at the moment. For example, my partner opened his current account with RBS one month ago, and to date he is still not in possession of a working ATM card with a PIN number, as they have made mistakes with his account 3 times! I am go ...

For everyday banking, the Royal Bank of Scotland is first rate. I cannot fault their customer service. But don't save or invest with them. I have a direct debit set up to transfer any excess funds directly to a high interest savings account with another bank.
