Been with them for 15 years and pay a fair amount in each month. I to have just been told that they are ending the High Interest Current account. This means I loose out if in credit or using the overdraft. The only people who will gain are those who are constantly more than £2500 overdrawn. In their letter they didn't even suggest the ulimate reward account, just the basic current account. I am now moving banks. When my savings plan with Halifax ends in December I will move that out too and have nothing more to do wth them. Appaling is the only word that sums up their customer service and attitiude to long term customers. The bank I have moved to said that their branch alone has had 6 halifax customers moving to them this week - and that's just one branch of one bank!

Halifax PLC have essentially choosen to rob those customers who make use of a small overdraft facility with their new so called "simple charging". If for example, I go into overdraft by £20 for 11 days it will cost me a total of £31 for the luxury of having borrowed the £20.
It simply amounts to extortion !
Now I am faced with opening a new current account elsewhere and moving all my direct debits and standing orders !
Thanky you Halifax PLC for your loyalty !!! ...- Read Guest's review (80 words)

The new £1 per day charge for using your overdraft on a current account will begin in December I will ensure that I move to another bank by then. There is no way I am going to pay £1 a day for using my overdraft. This means that if I am £0.50p or £500 into my overdraft I will being paying £1 per day in charges. This is not the way to keep customers Halifax.- Read Guest's review (71 words)

I wish I had never set up a Halifax Bank Current Account with the Halifax! My funds are transferred into an account with them to pay all my bills and today I have found that yet again, although my other account has transferred the funds the Halifax don't have them. Eight direct debits have come out today which will leave me with charges amounting to £280, oh, and there's the £28 overdraft charge to go onto that as well! So over £300 charges. How on earth can anyone get them ...- Read Guest's review (132 words)

Halifax really are the pits. i have been with them for over 15 years and there is no incentive whatsoever for customer loyalty. When i first joined them it took them a whole year to switch my account over and sort out all the cock ups that they had made whilst doing it. I should have realised then what a bunch of cowboys they are. They really know how to charge for going a few pence overdrawn too. I have gone overdrawn a few times by less than a pound and it has cost me over £80 each ...- Read p1tkendall's review (160 words)

Steer well clear of Halifax. Dreadful, dreadful. Wrote to say we were in the process of closing our account with them, so they cancelled the account immediately, including all our Direct Debits etc. Just awful. There is nothing whatsoever to recommend them. Even their staff were embarrassed at their employer's incompetence.- Read Guest's review (51 words)

My husband and I customers of HSBC for 28 years. About four years ago I decided to open up my own current account at the different bank where my wages would go in. Unfortunately I chose Halifax. They charged me numerous times £35 for every item I went overdrawn with plus £28 for unauthorised overdraft (once overdrawn at £1.34, the other time £0.84 and £8.82). They would take away overdraft facility away without informing me. I always had an ISA with them and a regul ...- Read Guest's review (139 words)

Halifax Bank have no customer loyalty what so ever I have been with them over 20 years had several loans all paid in full a credit card with in limit and a 4000 overdraft. However despite this they now keep reducing my overdraft so I am always on the limit as if they want me to go over so they can charge me, and as for there call centre they are rude and extremely unhelpfull .Avoid at all costs as soon as I have cleared my overdraft I am leaving them for good.- Read Guest's review (100 words)

The Faster Payment system has been introduced for more than a year, but Halifax is still struggling with it.
Every time there was a request, 'You have selected today's date. On this occasion we're unable to send this as an Immediate Faster Payment. Your payment will be sent on 12/06/2009 using our bill payment service.' It only means by BACS next day so the receiving bank will not have the funds available to me before next Wednesday 17/06/2009.
If they can't send Faster Payment out now, why c ...- Read XX's review (131 words)

I asked 3 different staff members from different branches what would happen if a fraudster ran up an unauthorised overdraft on the visa debit card of my Halifax current account. All 3 immediately thought that I would probably lose out but after taking a minute to talk to another person they said that all would be ok. None of the staff members knew what a chargeback was.
They keep asking will I get this product, will I get that product (these products are unsuitable for my financial stability b ...- Read Guest's review (108 words)

Went abroad but forgot to tell them, had to ring them from France on a mobile phone. When I got through to them, I was told my phone banking was frozen so I had to unfreeze the account before they could add a file note to let me use the account. Problem was, the account had been frozen for around 5 years, as the last time I had rung them, I couldn't remember the password. So now, 5 years later, I had 2 chances to remember the password just so I could leave a file note to say I was in France. ...- Read Guest's review (174 words)

The Banco Halifax Hispania looks the same as the Halifax Building Society in the UK. However, this will lure you into thinking the service and the banking standards are the same. They are not. They are entitled to charge you basically what they like as long as it is in their booklet and you will be extremely out-of-pocket. In Spain use a Spanish Bank. They will offer to speak with you in English and their charges will be a fraction of the Halifax Banco Hispania. We now bank with Caja Canar ...- Read Christineburrows's review (208 words)

Joined Halifax when I was 16 because my parents were with them and first off they got my name wrong. After this all was well I upgraded to a Switch account at 18 and had no issues when they switched over to the more widely accepted Visa, then the problems started. My phone company charged me twice for a phone bill and although they agreed to refund it this charge had taken me over the agreed overdraft limit resulting in a couple of weeks struggling to get the money back and having my overdraft l ...- Read 97SmithS's review (118 words)

The Halifax charged me £35.00 for being 34p overdrawn. When I queried it and threatened to change banks they offered me a one to one advisor to manage my account. They will take their money from you and even put you overdrawn therefore getting extra money from individuals.- Read jumbo50's review (60 words)

Halifax Share Dealing is awful.
I placed a stop loss of some share I held with them, and I then amended the stop loss, I was charged £2.
When I went back to check on the price the shares had been sold at the original stop loss price.
The FoS said "It seems probable that the firm (Halifax) has acted in error, by failing to carry out the instuctions to amend the Stop loss order and by informing his subsequently, and incorrectly.
Stay well clear of Halifax Share Dealing you will lose money b ...- Read koggy's review (129 words)

I have a bank account, savings and credit card with Halifax and I am closing them all this week. These people are absolutely awful, huge charges for going over my overdraft is my main complaint, one time I was charged a total of over £200 even though I turned up with cash to cover the payments the same day. The WORST thing about Halifax, apart from their silly adverts is the fact that you go into the bank to pay in a cheque and they try to up-sell everything they have on offer over the co ...- Read Guest's review (127 words)

As well as poor service from head office, telephone banking and branch staff, the complaints department are not helpful. They support their own staff over customers.
A recent complaint pointed out this site and is's poor reviews, and suddenly there is a guest rating them highly. Coincidence or what?
Being able to handle one's finances has no bearing on inept, rude and incompetent staff who jointly and severally manage to make a mess of someone's banking without the involvement of that person wha ...- Read AndrewBaker's review (119 words)
