    Good Points: Cheap conversion, incredible power


    Bad Points: Chassis needs strengthening suffer from rot and you must fit good brakes and suspension which can cost £ £ £ £


    General comments: I've owned my Vauxhall Nova GTE 2.0 Turbo for 4 years its now 320bhp and 341ft/lb of torque. I've uprated just about everything but kept it looking standard by far the most exciting car I've ever driven.

    It's a great car! The engine is standard out of a Calibra, and there you have a very fast a reliable car. I have fitted a chip, bleed valve and hybrid turbo, and I'm running 310bhp with a 6 speed LSD box. It is hard to get traction, but once it grips it's a flying machine.

    I would recommend this experience to anyone. It's a great cheap toy that won't keep eating your wages.

    I own a 2 litre 8 valve Nova. The only reason I have gone with a stupid engine size is because I decided to race a TVR Tuscan forgot to change gear as I was looking at the beast fly past me. My engine went BANG, I think it was God's way of saying, YOU STUPID BOY. I did this in my 1.2i with twin webbers, although it was quick and matched many 1.4's it had no chance agaist the TVR.     Personally I wouldn't have a 2.0lt turbo in my own Vauxhall Nova that I still own! I would opt for a friendlier 1600 GTE lump with modifications!
    I don't know where you guys are getting your info on nova handling but fair enough standard suspension was a bit lame with excessive body roll but have you actually tried a new car the body roll is better but still not superb, handling both the nova and newer cars require suspension upgrades to fit in with the supposed sports car handling!     My Vauxhall Nova GTE 2.0 Turbo was a 15 tdi conversion, turbo and pump screwed to da hilt! 17" wheels, GTE sideskirts and bumpers, SR interior, lowered! weather u believe it or not she could sit wit a 16 vtr saxo

    Mine was the 3 door Vauxhall Nova GTE 2.0 Turbo SRI, colour coded front'n'rear bumpers + sidescurts. it had a full piper performance exaust system (3.5"tailpipe)it also had a k&n induction kit + kentcam. Rollin road tuning red:105BHP not bad considering.

    All this talk of Vauxhall Nova GTE 2.0 Turbo, R5's, and old school MG's is leaving me wondering if you're all stuck in a time warp!

    I know that in their respective classes about 15 years ago all were okay cars, these days they just don't cut it. They don't offer the handling, brakes, comfort or reliabilty that a modern sports car will offer.

    The guy who whinks he runs 10's with 400Bhp is dreaming or on drugs, do you have any idea what is takes to run 10's?

    It is worth modifying a golf mk2 more than a nova, as a graduate Engineer I know that golfs are built stronger and last better, however any car nacks up if u dont look after it. For many people the mk2 has more class and is acceptable for a person who has a second car such as a BMW, or Lotus Elise to own a nice wolfsburg edition golf, they are just as classy, if done tastefully (ie no stickers and blue lights on the bonnet).     Nova are as good as you make them, and even enjoy.. if you dont like it stay away, reading through you all sound like kids "mines better than yours" etc.. I own a nova with the same engine conversions.. all I can say is it great fun and I'll put off buying that sensible family car for as long as I have it!!
    Job done properly it still as reliable as a factory motor. even in without mods the standard engine's power to wieght in a nova produces excellent power to pound spent.. and the conversions ...

    My Vauxhall Nova 1.4 SR Has got twin webber 40s, a K&N induction kit, a 4 branch manifold, and straight through Magnex exuast system. This means that it is fast for a first car. It has also got upgraded shocks and springs with 15inch alloys and wide tyres. This means that it handles well. It also looks lovely in very shiney black with a rear spoiler. A very nice starting car as long as no rust is present.

    The Vauxhall Nova ste turbo is one of the most fun per pound cars have ever owned. Citreon AX's are rattly biscuit tins, Peugeot 205's are fun but too tinny, fiesta's are just rubbish full stop, and you can't fit a big engine in a saxo! So for one of the best moddable cars around, buy a nova. Or if you want something newer, buy the corsa :) By the way, my mate has 320bhp pulsar and my 230bhp nova turbo can beat it :)
