    Good Points: none

Bad Points: plenty, the guide sent to me does not inform you how to access your account i then made a phone call to customer service centre and was told to look under insurances having found it i signed in then was told to go to internet explorer i still have not got in to my a/c

General comments: i put a cheque along with an application form in to my local post office and heard nothing for 3 weeks "panic had i made a terrible mistake" a few days later i received a letter saying they had received the cheque but no application form and included another one to complete so how did they know my address? cards and pins were all sent together along with duplicate letters 2 of everthing!what a jumble

Let me first state that the current interest rate really isn ' t good, its a variable rate account that follows the Bank of England ' s base rate and at the present that means the rate is low (and may go lower soon) but it is backed by the Irish government, which means if you have a lot of money and the bank went bust you would get 100% of EVERYTHING which is good. Opening the account is going to be a nightmare because so many people are opening accounts. You get a letter saying it could take up ...

Good rate of interest, very easy to withdraw from any post office up to £1,000 a day. Found the customer services very helpful and I waited no longer than I have with anyone else (about 6 minutes) in the queue. Was expecting delays due to the massive amount of accounts being opened on daily basis due to banks going down, but was very surprised. Staff at my local branch very well trained in answering all the queries that I had.
Great rate of interest, backed by up to 80,000 or 100,000 thou ...

3 year Post Office growth bond matured on 30 September 2008. This is joint name with my husband. He died on 15 September 2008, so contacted the Post Office with letter of intent and death certificate etc. at the end of September. Post Office returned all the relevant documents to me together with pin number so that I could access my bond details over the telephone. This is the only cash I have. My husband was disabled and we have no savings apart from this. I have an outstanding funeral expense ...

I applied three weeks ago and they got my money now but until now still did not get the welcome pack etc. I phoned several times and you are just put on hold for a long time. THIS IS NOT GODD! So I will write them a letter to cancel my application and get my money back.
I will stick with my Nationwide who has been excellent so far.
Forget them, if you want to be able to sleep in peace.

They have managed to sap any remaining confidence I had left in the banking system. Closed the account 8 weeks after opening it and switched to Icesave. I least they have the courtesy to answer the phone.

I found it difficult to access your account once you give them your money. So far this week I have spent over an hour on hold to them just trying to activate my account. The customer service levels are awful!

Opened account at PO on 16 August with £500 prior to depositing large lump sum from maturing policy. 23 September. Have received various correspondence but no welcome pack or deposit slips. Cannot lodge more funds. Cannot get through by phone.
What a waste of time and effort. Have spent a fortune on 0845 number trying to get through. All to no avail.

Think carefully before depositing, if you want to have immediate access to your money. No good points so far, apart from the potential interest of 5.75% should you ever be able to access it.

After 6 months of struggling with my Post Office savings account, I've closed the account. I didn't know if there were currently huge difficulties in granting on-line access, so the only way you can transact is by phone (difficult to get through) or by card (impossible if you live in a rural area). I'm pretty financially astute but even I can't deal with these folks.

I advise you to look elsewhere if you want access to your money. Unfortunately it seems hard to get your hands on your money. I have been trying for a week to get funds sent directly to my bank account. After being promised a bacs transfer which did not happen and a chaps transfer on friday, I still have not had the money paid into my bank account. I could not collect the car I was due to buy this weekend and have had to extend my old cars insurance for another week. I still have no idea when I ...

On four occasions they messed up the paperwork over identity verification despite all the correct documents being produced at two separate Post Office counters. Customer Service comprises a lot of jobs worths who are incapable of making a decision and will not put the customer through to anyone who can. Most seriously, they cashed a cheque for a large amount of money, and then told me after six weeks that if the account application failed, I would lose interest on the money sitting in their co ...

I went to my local post office in Main street, Bangor, Northern Ireland and the girl there explained it in great detail and in words that I understood none of this jargon you get at the bank. Very helpful and I couldn't be happier now I know my money is getting a good interest rate and if I need my money I can get it any time.
