Good Points: There are no good points to the co-op bank. Sometimes the staff are friendly, but they know little about anything specific.

Bad Points: They kept me on hold with the worst music in the world for around 30 minutes! I have no choice but to phone them at least once a month when I realised yet again they have mucked something up on my account!
Noone seems to know what they are doing in their call centres!
They are trying to blind me with forms and interest rates thinking I won't notice what they are doing.
I hate this bank so much, they cause me soooo much stress and upset me all the time with their incompetence and it's soooo frustrating. I know that when I call them (again!) they will keep me on hold (i was on hold for 45 minutes of my lunch hour on Monday) and then when i ask about a specific problem, they keep me on hold again.
Someone actually said to me on Monday that the department I needed "are scared of the phone". What sort of customer service is that?!?! I have no gripe with the poor souls in the call centres getting mimimum wage, it's the managers, it's the people in charge, it's the people that "are scared of the phone". I have called them soo many times in the last few months that I am literally pulling my eyes out when I realise yet again that they haven't listened or rectified my account - and yes, it is their mistake.

General comments: I only have an account with them because of a career development loan i took out with them.
I wish i had gone with another bank as they have caused me no end of problems since I started paying the loan back - they have recently change the actual amount I borrowed, perhaps they though I wouldn't notice they had added on an extra £100 i haven't had! I feel so annoyed as I can't even call the career loan department and always get some call centre person who, although assures me it will all get sorted, never does! Arrrrrgh! I am writing to them also, seeing as they don't do phones and am writing to any newspaper that will take up my case.

Ethical Bank. Great news. The sooner people realise the harm their big high street banks are doing to the poorer nations the better. Very friendly customer services and rarely put on hold. I did have to wait 30 seconds once!
Great bank. Hope this world banking crisis doesn't affect the Co-operative. If this bank was the only one in the world, I'd be well happy.

The Co-op had a really bad reputation for customer service throughout the 1980s and it seems as if they haven't changed at all. People who claim to be establishing a benchmark for ethical banking should treat their customers better, not worse, than the usual banks.

Co-op Privilege Bank Account is good for those that travel frequently as you get travel insurance provided year round. I got cheesed off with barclays ripping me off, and making me feel like just a number, so moved 2 years ago & haven't looked back. I also have a Smile account as this pays one of the highest rates of interest and comes with a fee free £500 overdraft.

I've been a customer of the Co-Op for about five years now. For the last couple I've been a Privilege account customer. It's good for your conscience to have you're money in an ethical bank no doubt, unfortunately their staff can be alternately rude and pushy. The idea of 'customer service' still to reach Manchester perhaps.

Co-op Privilege account offers a brilliant deal on its Privilege account. £6 per month gets you numerous discounts, plus travel insurance for you and your family for a whole year (including 21 days' winter sports cover). The company also invests your money only in ethically-approved ways.
