This is one of the most satisfying cameras I'm owned. While features are few, it excels in the most important category: picture quality. The lens performance matches its reputation for sharpness and high contrast while minimizing distortions and vignetting. Exposure is usually spot-on (with print film). The "weather-proofing" is a plus, allowing you to take the camera where other cameras are left home. Pictures taken in the surf and pool were sparkling. The "super-scope" waist finder allows more discrete photos to be taken of less than cooperative subjects, like children. Pluses: picture quality, durability, take-anywhere ability. Minuses: fiddly exposure-lock, harsh flash up close, few features. If you want a P&S with uncompromised picture quality, get a Yashica T4 or its European equivalent, the T5.

I bought this camera as a point and shoot solution when my eyesight went south and I wanted to take photographs of my children when they were young without the difficulty of SLR. I got a camera that said what it would give to me on the packet and I regret nothing. It has a collectors feel to it and I still use the camera with some feeling of pride in my purchase.

This is based on many years using this camera. It supplemented my standard 35mm camera. Great photo quality and very easy to use. The waist level finder is very handy.

Fave taken loads of film with my Yashica T5. I always get good results, and it beats minilux, olympus xa, olympus mju, and ricoh gr1v. A fantastic camera! If you buy one it won't let you down!!

I'm using the T5, which is exactly the same camera, but with another name for the European market. I had trouble liking this camera until I realised that the right way to use it is to accept the automatic mode 99 per cent of the time. I kept using the fiddly and maddening mode-changing button. If you relax and let the camera make the decisions, you'll nearly always get good results.

I wanted a point and shoot to supplement my SLR and to have something that I could carry all the time and use in all wather conditions. All of my cameras (film and digital) have Zeiss optics and that was an important feature. I researched the field and couldn't find any other camera (aside from the Contax T2) which would fill these qualifications. I have NOT been disappointed. The Zeiss lens has never let me down.
