I accidentley overpaid on my account and when I phoned to ask them to close my account & for them to send me a cheque for the over payment I was told that they would not send me a cheque & I had to spend it on my card. I explained that I had cut the card up months ago & argued for a cheque.

In the end I was rail roaded into them sending me a new card, Unfortunatley I have 2 addresses & accidently quoted the one the card is not registered to. I was then told that I could not have anything until I proved my address. Having no documents for the lesser used address I phoned a few weeks later to try and get through to someone else and give the right address but they said no.

I got put through to an alledged manager after asking 4 times, I explained my situation & that I have the correspondance that they had sent to the original address which was proof in itself he still declined my request. When I told him Vanquis were illegally holding my money I got the reply "If that's what you think" and when asking were they going to hold my money indefinatley "yep" I informed the man that I was going to take this further to which he said "You best go & speak to a solicitor then hadn't you".

A few days later I managed to obtain proof of address documents and phoned to obtain the fax number, I explained to the girl I would fax the documents over & she said it was fine.

A few weeks later I recieved a compliment slip, hand written stating that my documents were not good enough and I had to send ORIGINAL copies of bank statemnts ect. I am not willing to hand over my original documents to anyone.

I have resorted to raising a case with the Fincancial Ombudsman to reclaim my money along with the costs on legnthy phonecalls talking to their incolent staff.

I WOULD NOT RECCOMEND ANYONE TAKING OUT A CREDIT CARD WITH VANQUIS BANK.

After years paying over minimum payment and late bills and interest going up and up, my father stepped in to pay off card and I'd pay him back instead. Vanquis Bank Credit Card refused to close account claiming would still have to pay interest but refused to give an amount to close account. Told if paid total amount to closed account would be breach of our contract with them! I only ever spent £60 on card, rest was interest. Last and hopefully final payment was for £562, so a very ex ...

Vanquis generally very good, the monthly statement arrives like today, several weeks ahead of payment date making it clear what you should pay and when and how,the only problem i have had is 2 withdrawals i did not recognize but Vanquish are investigating it,i would recommend them.

I have just been charged £12 for going over my limit even though i was not aware i had. When i checked my balance last week i was £1 under my limit so obviously did not use the card, however when i checked this morning i found i was £3 over my limit because of a tranaction made over 2 weeks ago.Surely the card payment would be declined if the funds are not available. I am not so much concerned about the £12 charge( which incidentally Vanquis have refunded, it's more the fa ...

Vanquis Cards are designed for you who have, or had bad credit, as we know. the interest rate has always been a min of 34.99% and nevr lower. a premium and gold card are the same no difference with t&c's or even interest rate, your balance may go up depending how you even keep the account. also if your in arears you can be sent a gold card. Lots of people moan about the charges..... make sure payments are in with pleny of time before due date, and account is always below the limit. more you clea ...

When you apply for this credit card and accept it, bear in mind that you are trying to rebuild your credit, use it only when neccessary and always pay the full amount, yes it can be expensive but that is the risk they are taking, i have sucessfully managed a vanquis account with an up grade to a gold card, my statements have always been on time, i have never once recieved any phone calls asking for money and thanks to vanquis have rebuilt my credit where i have contract mobile phones, (2 in my n ...

I got a Vanquis card little over three months ago, like most, I got it to rebuild my credit but I have the following concerns: -

1). No up to date balance (usually takes 24hrs for updates)
2). No other way of checking your balance other than calling them on the phone.

3). Unknown charges being made on my account, even though I pay the balance in full each and every month and have at least £10-15 left on the accout, they seem to sneek charges onto the account making you go over your limi ...

My partner and I are both Vanquis customers.

My OH took out the card two years ago when he had lots of outstanding defaults and a CCJ, to rebuild his credit history. He's never breached the limit or missed a payment on the card.

He was given a £250 limit and 59.9% APR, but we setup a DD for the Full Amount to save being charged interest, after all it was just a credit building exercise. January of this year his card stopped working so he called them up and they said they'd sent out a "Go ...

They are absolutely shocking. After qualifying for a Vanquis Bank Credit Card 'gold card' due my good account (with a £500) credit increase they then upped my apr by 20.9% to 59.9%.

Very poor customer service department. Vanquis Bank Credit Card phoned up my work to contact me even though I did not give them that as a contact number, they then denied contacting my work. Rubbish.

First of all an answer to a previous comment about the times where you can get in contact with someone at the Vanquis Bank Credit Card call center is open 8 til 8 mon to friday and 8 til half 5 saturday. and the reason why they were probably continuously calling you is because you were clearly in arrears and in breach of your credit agreement. so pay your bill on time and you wont get endless calls... simple.

If you treat it with respect, getting a Vanquis Card could be the start of a new credit history; it was for me.

I had loads of defaults, CCJS etc from a few years back when I had left a job and had no money to pay off debts... every credit card I applied for rejected me without giving me a chance - even vanquis' supposed competitor capital one. I think the companies who just dismiss customers are the true villains because even a £50 limit at a high APR would have been perfect for me - i ...

i joined vanquis in december 2008. i have had nothing but grief from them either ringing me, emailing me and leaving messages on my work number! when i managed to get hold of them (they do not provide a call centre service after 6pm or at weekends) i asked them why their account service was so archaic, that with capitalone i can ring up and pay or chose to pay online. i then went to ask why they had left a message on my work phone number and not my landline as i was concerned about the breach ...

WARNING! DO NOT GET A VANQUIS CREDIT CARD. I have had so many problems with this company. I got a Vanquis credit card 2 years ago. I needed a card to use for internet shopping, but as I had no credit rating Vanquis were the only company that accepted me. So they gave me a card with a £250 limit, with an interest rate of 34%. I always managed my account well and usually paid of my balance each month. Then recently I accidently went over my credit limit. What happened was that I had phoned ...

DO NOT GET A VANQUIS CREDIT CARD. I have had so many problems with this company. Hardly surprising giving that they are a subsidiary of the notorious Provident Financial Service.

I have never had a problem with bad credit but i wanted this Vanquis card to use without frills or extra things to confuse me! I have been nothing but impressed - I get hold of a real person when I phone up, in my experience you get payments processed quickly. Also i had one query which was payment related and it was resolved within the phonecall. A great card. People might argue that it's interest rates are ridiculous, but then again so are the most prestigious cards - so my advice is don't ...

Overall very happy to have got a Vanquis Bank Credit card - now I am going to improve my credit record and make sure I don't miss any payments. It has given me the chance to build my credit rating where others have turned me down. I applied on their website and it was easy it did take me only 5 minutes to apply like they say on there website but it did take a while for the card to come - dont know why. No bad points really so far. I know the rate is high but that is because I guess I have be ...

I felt lucky to get a card with Vanquish as I have been struggling with debt and this back of extra cash was helpful to know I have, I know the APR is high compared to a lot, BUT I dont use this card for anything but emergencies.
