    it seems that i am sffering with the same prolem as many, i have ardly used the dvd and this christams have gone to use it and it will not open. i have tried to see if it can be repaired but it has had it. worse still i have contacted liton who "DONT PROVIDE REPLACEMENT DVD DRIVES" what a scam.     There are very few HD/DVD recorders on the market with the editing features of the LVW-5045. Being able to edit out advert's etc is extremely useful. It can also record more formats than most rivals. Of course the analogue tuner is not much use now but it's easy enough to record from a freeview box ...

    Had the machine over three years now without any problems whatsoever. I have never had any disc fail to load and writing to DVD 100% successful. Having read all the poor reviews I was wary of buying the machine but now I am very glad I did. I wonder if only wingers write into these forums and so ...

    Unit co9ming up on 3 years old & it's been back 4 times for DVD drive replacement. Same problem each time & looking around the web it is a common fault with the Liteon LVW-5045 - SO WHY DON'T LITEON SORT IT?

    This machine has been ideal as a HDD recorder but had nothing but problems with DVD burning/reading.
    In it's 2 year warranty the unit has had 3 replacement DVD Drives each one going the same way as the last. i.e same as the above reviews. Getting tempramental about balnk discs then getting temparent ...

    Use it only a a HDD the disc drive fails at all, from reading to recording, pay the extra and get a decent unit, unless you only want a HDD.

    I replaced the DVD writer in mine with a Liteon 20X new unit. It's easy enough to get it to work, but slightly more difficult to get it to fit well, mechanically.     The Lite-On LVW-5045 is good for recording to HDD and playing back, not so good as a DVD recorder. Hit and miss jittery menus, extremely fussy over which disc it'll write too.     I found that the Lite-On LVW-5045 would copy one program OK but if another program was added, it would corrupt the disc it had previously recorded on to!
