You probably wouldn't want to, but you can happily play them at full volume without any noticeable distortion.
If you want a better sound than this system gives you would have to buy a decent amp and bookshelf combination, which would certainly cost a lot more than the Soundsticks do. I am very hap ...

Excellent buy hooked up to PC very easily (although supposed designed for Mac). Snobbish step son extremely impressed by design and sound quality (a first!!!)
