I thought that the Sony DVP-S550P player was fine until recently. After 3 years delivers a picture with hundreds of parallel diagonal lines across the screen, with or without a disc in the player. 3 Years is way too short a period of time for a home electronics product to die. I have always been very impressed with Sony products until the onset of DVD and their refusal to allow their DVD players to play CD-R due to the fact that they are also a recording company.

This DVD player is a fantastic value for the money invested. The sound and video is as perfect as I have ever seen in any DVD player. Sony is a great company...I trust their products and have NEVER been disappointed.

I bought this unit as a replacement for my Toshiba SD-3108. The Tosiba would not play all DVD's. This Sony unit would at a price of $428. I would rate this player a total rip-off. The sound quality was very poor. The video quality was poor compared to many similarly priced units. What good is a ...
