I used the Makita UH6540 hedge trimmer on our old beech hedge. It cut through thick branches with ease, making the job very quick. It was quite heavy to handle when cutting the top of the hedge whilst standing on a ladder, but the cutting process was so quick that it wasn't a real problem. I have ...

The Makita UH6540 hedge trimmer is not cheap, but you get what you pay for. I bought one recently for home use, although I have around 100m of high hedges to get through.
This little beauty cuts through the hedge like a 'hot' knife through butter. I've never done the whole lot so quick!
