    When it works it is, in theory, quite accurate as it uses GPS technology.     The Garmin Forerunner 305 is an excellent gadget for running and biking - the basics like distance run and ave speed / max speed are great to have. I even used it for skiing recently. The heart rate monitor also works well, unlike other cheaper gadgets I have used in the past.
