The Nikon D40 is light, easy to use and produces a great picture quality. Overall, a great camera for everyone.

This camera is pitched at new DSLR users, and it hits the mark. It is quite small, light and very easy to use right out of the box.
There is plenty of flexibility to get as down-and-dirty as you want with manual exposures, aperture and shutter settings, white balance, etc etc. Or, you just switch ...

After lots of looking around and umm'ing and rr'ing I decided to splash out on a Nikon D40.
I must just say this... if you're looking for a DSLR camera you will not buy better than the D40. I've never used a DSLR before and am incredibly impressed by the ease of use this model offers.
