I bought the Gamo Recon for $75 at Academy Sports and Outdoors. I had no intention to use the included scope for such a short range plinker, so I bought and installed a BSA 30mm red dot sight to go with it for another $30. I purchased this my Gamo Recon .177 from backwoodsports.com. I was skeptical because of the low price ($89) but I was pleasantly surprised when I received it. My kid loves it, the scope could be better but for the price I can't complain to much. I would recommend it.

Very pellet fussy, good tight groups, but when you change to a different type/brand of pellet you have to re-sight the scope. I found that if it likes one brand of pellet, stick to it, and you'll be happy. Also, it's tunable, so you can get 100 more fps out of it, hope this helps.

I paid only $88 b/o was on sale. Something between real air rifle and weak plinker. Why they put scope on it and no sights? It shoots that far or gives you taste of real air rifle?
In overall I would not recommend it to my friend but to my friend's teens.

As advertised, this Gamo Recon .177 is a nicely made beginner plinker with very usable thumb hole stock. The barrel has a custom bull barrel look and it cocks easily. It comes in a combo with a scope mounted. The problem is that this scope & mount moves as you shoot. The rifle doesn't have much reco ...
