“Park was alright hotel was shocking.”

★★★☆☆

written by TrentonPruitt483 on 06/12/2015

4 of us came to Alton Towers for Scarefest. The hotel we originally wanted just so happened to get fully booked 2 mins before i paid for mine ( doubtful on that one but never mind ) So we had to pay extra to stay at Splash Landings. The room was lovely but we go there for 11 and was told we couldn't check in til 3 ( but on the website it says that if we left our luggage it would be put in our rooms.. This did not happen and was told that it couldn't happen! ) We checked in and then went to our room. We had a lovely view of the outdoor pool and we were just a short walk from the monorail that took us back to the park. However when we came back at 5pm there was an awful sickly smell all down the corridor. So we reported it to be told that someone would get on with it. at 10pm when we came back to our rooms again the same sickly smell was still there.. So i reported it again for a 2nd time and was told that someone would get on with it. While i was there i also asked was there somewhere i could buy food as i needed something to eat for my medication. I was sent to the pizza place that was in Splash Landings.. I waited for 10 mins while 7 people walked past me not one person acknowledged that i was standing there. Apart from the fact this is highly rude but it wasn't even busy either! The guy ( who i assume ) was the manager came over and when i told him i needed a pizza to take with me to my room due to my medication and the fact my niece was also unwell i was told this was not possible and that i had to wait til 11pm! I had been up all night and day with 2 hours sleep! I was not waiting til 11pm for a damn pizza just to take some medication with! So i went back to my room and went to sleep without my medication. I woke up at 2am to the same sickly smell that still hadn't been cleared up since 5pm that you could smell from our room. We packed up our things and went and slept in the car instead. £380 for a hotel room that we didn't even sleep in a whole night. and for park tickets which yes we did use. Anyways we went home on the Thursday night and we came back again on the Friday but bought my auntie with us... However this time the day was worse and we ended up going home early due to my niece getting upset. She had been with us for the 2 days prior to coming back on the Friday. She had been on Rita, Thirteen and Oblivion on the Wednesday and Thursday with no problems. Yet she wasn't allowed on Oblivion or Rita on the Friday cause apparently she was 2 cm too small yet was fine the 2 days prior I did phone and put a complaint in about all of these problems and they offered us to come back but for £120. I am not going to come back..

“A Day At Towers”

★★★★☆

written by 1973Hardy on 22/09/2015

We Have enjoyed a day out today at Alton Towers But we ate at Woodcutters Bar and Grill Big Mistake, My wife had a Woodcutters Burger the chicken was well over cooked/burnt Jacket potatoe cold (wich was replaced with a hot but over cooked potatoe. I had a Lumberjack Burger with chips wich was only just passable as it was not hot only warm. How ever we would visit again but would not make the mistake of eating in any of the food outlets we would take a picnic and visit one of the many local eateries.

“Disappointing ”

★☆☆☆☆

written by Kadj1 on 04/07/2015

Park closed at 5 pm. Monorail broken down so we had to walk a good 20 mins back to hotel. Refill bottles says hydration but only served fizzy drinks and no refill in CBeebies lane. Staff were friendly

“Poorly maintained rides and rip off charges.”

★☆☆☆☆

written by MckinleyGallegos on 18/09/2014

Visited Alton Towers in August and had 2 issues that spoilt the day. 1. Rides broke down multiple times forcing us to leave queues after hours of queuing ruining our day. 2. Paid £16 each for 2 cars (£32) for express parking and was still left queuing for over 30 minutes to get in and out of car parks due to Alton towers inability to provide staff at car park entrance. Not to worry I though after this terrible service I will complain and get a refund as I did not revive what I paid for. I made a complaint and after 3 weeks I received a ridiculous response informing me that "rides by there mechanical nature break down" and that express parking still offered good value for money. I'm just glad that they don't run an airline as planes would be dropping out of the sky. The rides pare obviously not maintained or repaired properly if they breaking down multiple times per day and as for the parking express by it's description does not mean waiting and stopping. Avoid Alton towers and go to drayton manor which provides honest and safe day out for a fraction of the cost.

“Queue,queue and queue!”

★★☆☆☆

written by on 13/08/2014

We went on August 12th laden with discount vouchers and still paid 98 pounds for admission We had to queue from the word go (just to get on the monorail to get us to the entrance) We did manage to get our grandson on some rides in Cbeebies land after 5 oclock when the wait times were not as long The rest of the party paid an extra 33 pounds to fast track the Smiler as it was a 90 minute wait The general feeling is to extract as much money from people as is physically possible Adding insult to injury they then charge you for car parking which resulted in chaos when trying to leave it took we'll over an hour to get out! All in all very disappointed A complete rip off!

“Alton Towers is magic but could make improvements ”

★★★☆☆

written by Ezra478 on 24/05/2014

I absolutely love going to Alton Towers Resort and go almost every year. I have been at almost every time of the year and it is amazing every time. However sometimes I feel service could be so much better. The park opens at 10 which I guess is decent for people coming form around 5-6 hours away as it gives them time to travel. Queues for tickets is mot that long unfortunately getting I to the park is very expensive you have to prepared to pay a lot. I recommend booking on line getting vouchers via newspapers cereal boxes tesco club card points they really do make it all that cheaper to get. The parking at the resort I'd really expensive considering the price you pay at Drayton manor. Depending on what time you get there the parking can be terrible. If you arrive a little late you could be walking half a mile to get to the entrance if the monorail is not working. If you wish to pay extra for express parking it is available on the website but at a hefty price , talking from experience but I wanted to be closer so I guess it was my fault. The park is huge which I love but it also mean lots of walking and the only other way around is the sky line which is why I really wish that they had some sort of train or vehicle to the other side as walking can take awhile and skyline is always really busy espically in the holiday. The rides are amazing they could be longer for the time you have to queue but if you go in the term time on a weekday the traffic around the park is reasonable but they must find a solution to this queuing problem because people by fast tracks cut the queue but people who don't buy a fast track or miss out due them being sold out could potentially wait in the queue for hours. Best rides(in order of preference). Air, flume, oblivion, sonic spin ball, thirteen, Rita and the rest are pretty much average Food =expensive but if you save on ticket then I guess it is alright The park should be open till much later closing at around 5:30 is terrible if you go to theme parks in America they are open till 8-9 pm which is what is needed to get through the park and still want to stay at the hotel

“Queue jumpers ”

★★★☆☆

written by on 19/04/2014

The rides at Alton are amongst some of the best but unfortunately queuing for them is a bit of a nightmare. Stood in the line for 13 today and people kept coming up and trying to go past when we got to the 5th and 6th person wanting to jump past us I asked them not to but they were extremely rude and pushed past myself and my children anyway to join a group of approx 6 others ahead of us. We then had to put up with this rather large group making comments about us and being very intimidating for the rest of the time we queued. I spoke to the attendant when we got to where the fasttrack merged in but nothing was done and the group of young people were still allowed to go through continuing to make comments. If Alton is going to say no queue jumping it needs to be willing to do something about it.

“Sometimes they do, sometimes they don't”

★★★★☆

written by AngelaReview on 22/10/2013

I have a Merlin annual pass and I've found that every time I go to Alton Towers I have a slightly different experience. Sometimes it is packed out with long queues and sometimes it's quiet. Sometimes good service, sometimes bad. Sometimes broken rides, sometimes not. Go on a good day, 5 star, go on a bad day, 2 star.

“Battle Galleons to the rescue”

★★★★★

written by DaveyB12 on 24/08/2013

I didn't want to go, but my 12 year old daughter had her heart set on it. First thing we did was join the queue for Smiler, an hour later we gave up, being totally insulted by the rip off 'fast track' system. I was determined never to go again. But then we discovered 'Battle Galleons'... absolutely fantastic fun..Perfect perfect perfect. We went again the day after and had even better fun. That was the most fun I've had in years and am still on a high because of it

“Brilliant! definately go again!!!! ”

★★★★★

written by on 03/08/2013

My son and I went to the park for his first time. The time we spent there was amazing and we enjoyed every second of being there, we didn't want it to end! The most important thing was the atmosphere, it was so joyful. The one and only dislike there was, was a ride that really hurt youre legs. I think the ride is called 'Enterprise'. But overall it was brilliant and will go again.

“Erg”

★★★★☆

written by Dtbolger1 on 15/07/2013

Just stayed the weekend at the weekend in the Alton Towers resort hotel, with my wife and 3 children aged 11, 9 &8. The stay at the hotel was excellent with the staff excellent food excellent and my kids just loved splash landings. Our only moan was that the early ride time for hotel guests is not true. The park opens to the public at 9 and anyone who was in the park could get on the rides. The rides opened under early ride time are very poor and compared to recent years not worth it. Will go to Alton Towers again but will not stay in their hotel as the main benefit of the early ride time is no longer offered and therefore the price charged for 1 nights stay 220 GNP is not value for money

“One of the better UK parks”

★★★★☆

written by Angels Sin on 19/06/2013

I went to Alton Towers a few months after returning from a trip to America where I'd been the many of the parks there. UK parks are never as good so I tried not to get my hopes up! Ok, so compared to America, the parks just don't match up, nowhere near the same amount of thought has gone into theming, queues, keeping the park clean, staff being welcoming, or even the rides. However, it wasn't all bad by any means. Firstly, I went on a fairly slow week day and there were no queues to get in. The queues for the rides were also not too bad, but I did notice the lack of care for the queuing system - nothing to entertain you whilst you're waiting. The park was also not as clean as it should have been on such a slow day and there is really no excuse for that. However, it is big and in places pretty, so onto the rides... The first thing I noticed is that the rides don't seem to last as long as the one's in Florida so if I'd had to wait in a queue for an hour I might have started to get annoyed! The first one we went on was Nemesis, which also had the biggest queue. It's not bad but if you are expecting something really extreme, you'll be disappointed. It also feels like it needs a little work as it was fairly bumpy. It was good fun though and worth a try if you're there. Next was Air, and this was possibly my favourite. It's not scary at all, in fact it's not a thrill ride and is almost relaxing, BUT, it really does give the feeling of flying! It was so smooth and I had a few moments of pretending I was Superman! Rita was next, it goes from a standing start to about 65mph in 2.5 seconds and that part is a real thrill but after that it calms down slightly. Still, it was enjoyable and made a change to be in a seated kind of cart. Thirteen reminded me of a knock off of Everest at Animal Kingdom. I don't want to give too much away as both rides have little surprises in them. It was good fun but very short. Last ride of the day was Oblivion! I made the mistake of watching the ride for a bit and it does look scary!! However, there was no queue and the staff shouted over that they were about to run the last ride of the day so jump on - front seats! I did. The build up as you slowly creep round to the drop is almost the most scary part as you ask yourself why you are doing this! The drop itself is brilliant, you can't even scream as all the air is knocked out of you. After the drop though, the ride just goes back round to the start so you can get off which is a bit of a shame. Fantastic for a thrill though and this is my favourite along with Air - very different rides but love them both. Eating at Alton Towers was not a fun experience. Despite not being a very busy day, all the restaurants/pubs were packed. We finally found a dirty table and grabbed it. We had to ask for it to be cleared and cleaned which was annoying and had to wait a very long time for our food (which was fairly medico) to be served. If you can be bothered to carry it around with you, a picnic is probably a better idea. I will be going back to Alton Towers this summer as what it offers isn't bad, but I'm also returning to Florida next summer where I know the standard is so much higher. I don't know why the UK parks can't try to match them really.

“Great place”

★★★★☆

written by ripoffbritainrules on 07/01/2013

Alton towers is great and its like stepping nack in time to your childhood when you go there. The last time we went was in the summer last year and it was swarming with wasps, so much so we just couldn't enjoy the day. I think they should look at seriously dealing with this for next summer as it will put people off. I noticed there were a few wasp traps around but the werent doing much. They were even inside the eating areas and our kids were freaking out slightly. Everything else was fantastic, the kids loved the charlie and the chocolate factory ride especially!

“It's amazing!”

★★★★★

written by on 02/11/2012

Alton towers is great, I would recommend it to anyone. There are so many amazing rides there and are totally worth queuing for. The only things which is average it the queue times. You can be queuing up for ages for some of the bigger rides like Air, Nemesis and Oblivion. But all the rides are really worth it however you can get fast passes if you didn't want to queue. There is something for everyone which is why it has turned into an annual thing for me and family. I am now planning to go there for my birthday next year and I'm sure everyone will love it and think it's amazing as much as I do. Seriously if you don't go there you are really missing out.
