The Dodge Dakota has more power than any other truck in it's class. It will out perform the Chevy/GMC S10/s15 and Fords Ranger. I own a 97 Sport Club Cab with the 318 (5.2L) and I can tell you from experience that It has more than enough power. I am not sure as to how well it would tow a 3500 lb trailer though. I have only had to take it to the shop for routine maintenance and one check engine light which turned out to be an upstream O2 sensor. The room in the cab is far greater than Chevy/Gm or Ford's trucks in it's class.
The gas mileage is about the only thing I can complain about. I get about 10 mpg street and 15 mpg highway but, with a V8 in front of the gas pedal it would be hard to get much better than that.

I think the previous reviewer "Huer" is wrong. Sure a "Full Size" Chevy/GM or Ford would outperform the Dakota but none of their compact or midsize trucks can touch it when it comes to power or size both interior and exterior.
