Good Points

Close to the Old Town, "the strip" and beach.

Bad Points

The apartment was very rundown and decrepit. The pool area was a mess.

General Comments

I have just returned from a holiday at the Colony Club in Puerto del Carmen on Lanzarote. I stayed two nights in the Colony Club before moving to a new apartment.

Some of the problems.
1. Lights hanging off the wall.
2. Major cracks in the glass floor of the balcony.
3. The insides of the light fittings were filthy.
4. Cigarette burns and stains on the bed linen
5. The pool area is a mess, the sun loungers (contrary to the pictures to be found on the web) are old and many were broken.
6. The cooker controls were obliterated, turning on a ring was a matter of trial and error.

The general appearance of the place was one of neglect.

It is also my belief apartments are a fire trap. The bedrooms which are on the lower floor have no windows or alternative means of escape if the stairs are blocked.

I must agree with Jim. For some years I was a frequent visitor of Lanzarote and Colony Club. Colony Club because my parents owned (not through time-sharing fortunately) one of the apartments. At first it was a very good place to stay. The pool was exactly like the pictures (the pictures Jim refers to probably date to those days) and numerous flowers and plants blossemed throughout the resort. Service was wonderful and the view was nothing short from breathtaking (that huge hotel wasn't there yet). This situation started deteriorating much to our disappointment because the location is perfect ultimately resulting in the situation Jim describes.

I stayed at the colony club in room 117, it was like a palace, the room was tidy and every appliance worked, only problemwas that u only get a maid if u r staying 2 weeks or more, we stayed 1 week and never got any clean bed sheets and towels.

As the present owner of 117 colony club I must thank Mr Gibbons for his remarks!

With regards to the experts(what qualifications?)remarks.
I belive your so called expert after a whole 2 days of staying on the complex should have taken the bother, before commenting, of investigating and he would have realized that these are privatly owned apartments and vary greatly in overall condition. Perhaphs we should have the oportunity of visiting his home to make our comments!

Oh dear! Just thinking about booking a two week holiday at Colony Club, Puerto del Carmen, in June 2004. Very put off by above comments. Understand owner's point of view but when booking with an agent impossible to tell what you're going to end up with - not worth the risk. Maybe the owner can supply (current) pictures of the pool etc. to change our minds.

As the writer of the original review, I should clarify a couple of things for Paula (and others).

Firstly, I didn't and still don't claim to be an expert. This review 'decided' I was an 'expert' I don't know how it arrived at that decision.

Secondly, I realise that the apartments are privatley owned and almost certainly vary in quality. I only commented on the apartment that I was in (it wasn't 117). I stand by my comments. The holiday company that I was with agreed with me and moved me to another complex.

Thirdly, The pool area was a mess, it may have changed I don't know. Again, the holiday company agreed with me.

Fourthly, The comment about my own house is irrelevant and childish. I do not advertise my house for rent for holiday accomodation or any other purpose so has no bearing on this review.

I agree with original comment regarding the Colony Club in Lanzarote. It's livable, but expensive for what you get.
