Spacious and favourably priced and equipped compared to competitors.
Too many electrics for the hopeless mechanics at the VW dealers to cope with. How many times did mine cut out? How many times did it go back to the garage. And how many times was I told there was nothing wrong. Approved VW dealer in London the worst, rudest and most incompetent I have ever had the misfortune to encounter.
The VW Passat Estate 1.8T Sport (1999) is spacious and favourably priced and equipped compared to competitors.
Main problem-too many electrics for the hopeless mechanics at the VW dealers to cope with. After 2 years they eventually found the fault - a loose wire in the steering column and now it's a great car (touch wood) with ample room for 2 adults, 3 child seats, dog and luggage.
