Aviva Car Insurance Reviews at Review Centre

I do not think that my review can fully express my disgust and disatisfaction after trying to claim with Aviva car insurance.



I passed my test in september 2009 and started to save up for a car. My dad who has what an only be classed as an old banger which brakes down ever month was given a mini copper as a gift from my older brother who wanted to ensure my dad had a reliable car and also thought it would benefit me as an additonal driver. As an additional driver i only use the car on weekends and ocassionaly to get to the train station on a morning. Within the first month of being with Aviva, through no fault of my own i was hit by another driver.(Aviva have repeatedly told me they do not know who this guy is insured with, i know that the customer is also insured with them so from the start a blatant lie)



Contacted aviva to advise accident, very helpful and also put me in touch with a personal injury company as i had been injured (i did not claim becuase i did not feel my injuries were serious enough to warrant a clam). 6 months on and aftter many phonecalls and cut offs and blatant lies i finally found out today that aviva decided within the first 7 days of the claim that they did not believe me to be an additional driver, they decided that i was the main driver of the vehicle thus invalidating my insurance and blocking my claim. But have aviva told me of this?? NO! my dad and i have paid our monthly insurance installment for the past 6 months, continued to drive the car ony to our horror discover that we are not insured(ISNT THIS ILLEGAL?). So to clarify, Aviva pegged us for fraud but continued to charge us the monthly pemium knowing full well that should another accident occur that a claim would be impossible and our insurance is actually void, all his without notification.



I asked Aviva what we were supposed to do? Avivas answer just gets better, total cost of insurance is £1100, not bad. They now are trying to force me to pay them and additional £2800.00 to have my details changed to show me as the main driver (making annual cost for insurance £3900 with my insurance renewing this september) when all the details have been changed over they will then procees my small claim of £700.00?? Again Aviva if you are alleging that we have made a fraudulent claim and cant proceed how can you attempt to blackmail us to pay an additional £2800 to proceed with a claim? In fact why would you want to continue providing insurance to us?



To clarify i am not the owner of the vehicle, i am not the main driver. Aviva apparently have a vehicle registration log showing that i have previously been the registered owner of the vehicle, i would like to point out i have never owned a car in my life or signed any declaration. Perhaps if Aviva employed staff who are competent enough to read official documents they would see that my brother the person who gave my dad the car as a gift shares the same initial as me. Even though it clearly states his full name.



Aviva i hope you read this and my dad and i are very much looking forward to our conversation with the financial ombudsman tomorrow morning.
