WARNING FIRE HAZARD! I have owned a Hotpoint FDW60 dishwaher for just over three years, it wasn't very good at its job, cups sometimes coming out dirtier than when they went in. Now the thing has just gone up in smoke, the switches and plastic surround have melted. Luckily this happened during the day, washing the dishes after entertaining some guests for lunch, so it was caught in time. Normally it would be put going at night, I dread to think what could have happened, with children sleeping upstairs above the kitchen. Phoned Hotpoint, first question they asked "Was the fire brigade called?" When I said no all they wanted to do was send an engineer out for the cost of £104.99 for repair or pay £14.99 a month for a year for repair or replacement with 12 months warranty. I'm still reviewing my options, needless to say I'm not keen on having another Hotpoint. Maybe a case for Trading standards or BBC Watchdog? My previous dishwasher was an Indesit which lasted fifteen years. MAKE SURE YOUR SMOKE ALARM WORKS!!!!!!
