Excellent quality camera, my 5th so far. Having purchased the minolta Dynax 5000i and the newer version above that.
The lens quality is good and the layout of the camera allows for easy photos.
Minolta offers many gimmicks for the money, but if you are buying an SLR and using it as a compact then what is the point. The only things you really need are aperature / shutter priority, full manual mode depth of field and spot metering.
The camera motor is in the body and there is an adaptor in the lens to focus. Unlike Cannon which has the motor in the lens, after long usage the motor wears down and auto focusing becomes harder.
Body is light, if a bit too light and the polymer resin caseing on the bayonet area seems fragile compared with older models which used steel.
This camera is an excellent piece of kit. It will do the job required and more. Light with excellent features. Comparable to canon/nikon and other brand makes of the same price.
