When I first started using Chums, they were OK, but in recent years, they seem to have gone down the pan. I ordered some cotton trousers some time back but the stupid thing about them was that the tie cord fastens at the front INSIDE the trousers, which means that the waist band of the trousers themselves bells OUT at the front. Earlier ones I bought from them had the cord tying on the OUTSIDE of the trousers, so that the waistband was held IN. Another annoying factor is that the tie cord is now stitched in at the back, which means that if the cord ever breaks, not only can you not extract the remaining piece, but you cannot thread a new cord through! - what a stupid lack of forethought!
However, my main gripe is now centred on the shrinkage of cotton garments bought from Chums.
I bought a load of men's cotton briefs which were excellent when first purchased, but which have progressively been shrinking, following repeated washings! - and my wife has her washing machine temperature set quite low.
When comparing some used briefs with brand new, unused ones, I've found that the used ones have now shrunk vertically by 3 INCHES, measuring from the waistband to the crotch! No wonder I was having TWUBBLE!
Similarly, concerning the cotton trousers mentioned earlier by me, a friend of mine recently asked why I kept wearing "half-mast" garments. I must admit, I had indeed thought that these pesky trousers had been decreasing in length. At 65 years of age, I'd long ago stopped growing! To my astonishment, I found that the blasted things had shrunk from inside leg measurement of 27 inches to 25 inches! Now, I may be SHORT, but...?
So, all you blokes out there, unless you don't mind your voice being raised gradually by an octave or more, and/or looking a complete buffoon in the street by eventually wearing far-to-short trousers, DON'T buy cotton underpants or trousers from Chums!
Similarly, you ladies out there, BEWARE of buying anything COTTON from Chums. It SHRINKS!
I've been e-mailing and e-mailing them about this, but never any reply. Despite a message coming up on-screen about my e-mails having been received, I fear these messages are not getting through. The "CAPTCHA" thingy on there seems always to be the same one. Come on Chums, get your act together. Maybe the (unidentified) Team Manager of Chums who posted just before me can sort something out. Like some of the other posters, I REFUSE to telephone them at premium rate. It's about time they got an 0845 number, instead of that lousy 0844 one they have for Customer Service.
