I have been banking with Lloyds TSB for 17 years. When I jointly bought my first home in 1996 I had contents insurance with them.
In 2000 I moved into rented accommodation, called Lloyds TSB Insurance and gave them my new address and details to swap the policy. I stupidly failed to notice the lack of renewal letters (in fairness I was in my early twenties and didn't know much about it, the direct debit was still active so I paid no attention).
When my exp and I sold the house years later I called by just to check the loft in the empty house and as luck would have it found a letter delivered that week, addressed to me...a policy renewal no less! I had not been insured at my new address for nearly FOUR years. I did get a refund, and my ex SHOULD have been giving me my post but hardly the point. I KNOW I gave LLoyds my new details as when I moved I had made a record of everyone I had contacted with them.
After that renewal I did switch insurance provider for a couple of years as Lloyds were getting very expensive, switching back two years ago when they gave me a cheap deal. This year they have tried to rip me off yet again so I called them to see if they could beat a quote I found with someone else. I mentioned that they also seem to have my details wrong on the renewal (although strangely, this was not wrong on the original policy documents), I rent not own this property.
After a lengthy telephone call, the gentleman then decided to check the rest of my details and on hearing that I am currently in between jobs due to redundancy, he informed me that because I rent (yes, yes, have been since 2000) and I am currently unemployed, despite the fact that I have NEVER been late with a payment, they cannot offer me insurance anymore. WHAT A CHEEK!
Useless...would NEVER recommend them.
