“I have been studying with the Open University since...”

I have been studying with the Open University since 1985. In that time I have completed a BA(Hons), Diploma in Music, PGCE and I have almost qualified for a BSc(Hons). After having served as a Royal Air Force Musician (25 years service), I am now a qualified secondary teacher working in an independent school. Had it not been for the OU, I would not have been able to walk straight into a second career in teaching and I owe a tremendous amount to the university for this opportunity. The teaching materials are second to none and I have seen evidence that their module materials are used by other universities throughout the world. All of the tutors I have had have always been inspiring and helpful. The Open University is a world leader in the field of distance university education. Having read some of the negative comments on this site, I can't help thinking that some of these people probably need "spoon feeding" similar to what goes on at GCSE and AS/A2 level in some UK schools these days. If this is the case, the OU will not be for them. It takes a lot of hard work to get a good OU degree and you have to be motivated. My wife is also an Open University undergraduate and we are encouraging our 16 year old daughter who is currently sitting GCSE exams, to study with the OU for her degree.

Hey, thanks for the review, has pretty much made my mind up for me! Am in a v similar situation, currently serving in the army, and interested in a career in teaching, was just looking for the right place to start, have you found it easy for organisations to accept your qualifications etc?
