My boyfriend purchase my diamond & platinum, certificated ring from Coventry in December 2006, unfortunately the ring was far to bigand I took it back to the store to have it resized. Two days later had a phone call to say that they would not be able to resize the ring down to at would mis-shape the ring. They were more than happy to get me a replacement at the correct size. However the replacement rings diamonds were very poor quality & clarity. The orginal ring's diamonds were VVS1 - excellent. I comprimised and had the ring down sized to a K, a little bit loose but it was fine when worn with my eternity/wedding band. The ring I also came with a ten year guarantee and an option to have the ring cleaned each year. I took it back in 2007 and had it cleaned in Coventry - no problems, or so I thought. On 14th January 2011 I took to ring to the Nuneaton store and that's when the problems really started. They cleaned the ring but the manager noticed that it was slightly mis-shapened and attempted to straighten it. In doing this he managed to snap the shank completely, my heart nearly fell through the floor. Upon closer inspection by the manager it was discovered that the ring in fact had NO hallmark whatsoever and the numbers etched on my diamonds that should also be on the shank were also missing. Something that I had never noticed, he also commented that the platinum was extremely pitted and it 'shouldn't look like it does considering it was only 5 years old'. As the ring had no hallmark he said that they were in a precarious position as it's illegal to sell an item of jewellery without a hallmark. He firstly offered to simply replace my ring, to which I said no as I wanted the diamonds becaus firstly my husband had chosen them and secondly they were excellent quality. He assured me that I would be able to have my diamonds reset in a new shank no problem. That was 7 weeks ago and I'm still no nearer to getting my ring back I've been lied to by the manager and assistant manager of the store. I was assured just a fortnight ago that the ring had been cast and it was on its way to the finishers and that I would be able to collect it on 2nd/3rd March. When I called on 2nd March to check that I would be able to collect, the manager was out of the office until 4th March. I asked the assistant manager to chase it up with head office, said she would call back. I had to call back on 3rd March and chase her she then informed me that it would be another 3 weeks as it hadn't been cast yet. Will be calling head office on 7th March & trading standards will update you soon. N
