I've just phoned McVities customer care line to report the following problems with their product - (and also referred them to this web page) -
What on earth has happened with McVities plain digestive biscuits?
For several months I have been finding higher and higher proportions of broken biscuits in packets. At first I put this down to the idiots the local shops employ as shelf stackers. However, packets bought more recently from large retailers have been just the same and this weekend was the final straw.
As we were without cooking facilites I was relying on a 500g packet of bisuits as a quick filling snacks but EVERY SINGLE BISCUIT IN THE PACKET WAS BROKEN! At least half the packet was just crumbs and the only way to eat them would have been with a spoon!
What has McVities done to the recipe? From my own observations I think the type of fat they are now using is completely wrong for biscuits - they also seem to be using too much of it. The biscuits are becoming increasingly greasy (they leave grease spots behind on paper serviettes etc.) and the current recipe produces too 'short' a mix for bsicuits.
Come on McVities go back to the tried and trusted original recipes - and re-introduce an animal fat version to get some original flavour back if need be.
